Would Pelosi and Democratic rule change things around? You bet! Here's Pelosi's "100 Hour Plan":

0-24 hours: Put new rules in place to "break the link between lobbyists and legislation."

25-48 hours: Enact all the recommendations made by the commission that investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

49 - 100 hours: Raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour, maybe in one step. Cut the interest rate on student loans in half. Allow the government to negotiate directly with the pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices for Medicare patients. Broaden the types of stem cell research allowed with federal funds.

Hours after that: "Pay as you go," meaning no increasing the deficit, whether the issue is middle class tax relief, health care or some other priority. Bush-era tax cuts would have to be rolled back for the 6% of Americans at ($250,000 or $300,000 a year and higher income.

I'd love to hear what's wrong with that plan!

only a moron would say pelosi does a good job and deserves to be speaker. or someone who will enjoy those Malibu and Aspen parties ol' Nancy will invite you to while the rest of us put up with ILLEGALS clogging our hospitals and schools, or the acts of terror that will come our way while Nancy thinks of the Clintonesque-Carter way of dealing with them. Doing nothing at all except perhaps waving the white flag.

This gal, like Hillary, only thinks of herself. Not what is good for the country. Time to take away the makeup and plastic surgery, princess, and work like the rest of us. Including perhaps, not a few of the Neo-Fats who kiss your wrinkled feet.

Hooray Nancy. Sounds refreshing to me. Forget empeachment. The republicans wasted million of dollars trying to get Clinton and came up with nada.

Do the nations biddings. There's plenty of fish that needs to be fried that the republicans let lay. Junebug and Chaney will be neutrlized and will not be able hurt the nation any longer.

Go Nancy Go!!!

"Your party wants to raise my taxes Calls me at 200k rich? Gore said this FACT" says amsjoe.

OK everyone on comments here, who else is making $200K a year? $150K? $100K?

Only 15% of all Americans make more than $100K a year (upper middle class is defined as making $50K to $100K yearly). Here's another interesting point: The top 6% of all Americans make 1/3 the total of ALL income in the US.

In general, it can be said that the top 15% earners have had it great under Bush, so yeah, I can understand why they'd be so nervous about having the Democrats in.

The good news is for the 85% of Americans (the vast majority of the rest of us) in that Pelosi's "100 hours" plan once they've regained Congress is to finally send some love to those at the other end of the spectrum (you know, the poor?) by immediately introducing legislation to raise the federal minimum wage. Hopefully the Republicans won't try to tack on yet another tax break for the rich and scuttle the bill again.

Nancy Pelosi is 10 times the human being bush and is probably 10 times smarter. Not that that would be too hard. Too bad bush got pres, like so many have said and it is so true. He doesn't have the intellect to lead the U.S. Nancy does and if you cut thru all the *** and just go look at the bills she sponsered you will see that. I do believe the bills a legislator sponsors are the bottom line.

"Heaven forbid if Nancy Pelosi becomes Speaker of the House!...totally partisan, loves the spotlight, will NEVER allow HER Democrats to work with Republicans on matters for the public good...she will spend her entire tenure, as she already has, in a constantly personally attacking all members of the other party rather than honestly expressing ideas to most benefit us all...she does not perform in the interests of American citizens at large!"

So the fear is we get more of the same except it will be the Dems doing it?

She is perfect. She will not hide pedophiles, she is not sharing a brain with all of her colleagues, she is for peace and against lying to the public in order to send young men and women of to die etc etc etc.

Republicans are liars and crooks.

After watching your segment on Senator Pelosi I am absolutely convinced that she and several fellow Senators she associates with are very vindictive individuals and should not serve the citizens of the United States.

As frustrated I am with Iraq, I could never support her or the policies she proposes.

Leslie Stahl was certainly wearing her rabid Republican heart on her sleeve during this interview with Nancy Pelosi! So much for professionally neutral journalism. Stahl's cheesy deprecating remark about how Pelosi ate TWO, count 'em, TWO pork chops during some outdoor social gathering was a real hoot! (interestingly, this was conveniently deleted from CBS's online transcription of the interview). The only thing that I disagree with Pelosi on is the impeachment of President Bush. If Bush could be impeached and Cheney have to resign for health reasons, maybe then this nation would have someone in the Oval Office who knows what they're doing!!!

I would like to say hurray for Nancy Pelosi. The first woman "Speaker of the House" would be a wonderful thing. And who is Leslie Stahl and how dare she belittle this accomplished woman.

We women have worked hard and long for such strides and don't appreciate other woman trying to diminish such accomplishments. Hey Leslie, did one of the guy bosses make you ask those questions - remember that is the type of thing we women fought for. Leslie, also thanks for adding to the Republican "fear" campaign - you should be a proud Republican and not "proud" WOMAN!!!!

Pelosi as House Speaker would be not be an improvement on what we have now. It is scary to have people like her in positions of authority.
This, and the coming presidential election, are going to be very difficult for the voters and, ultimately, for the country.
What is needed are fresh faces, fresh ideas, idealists, a change in thinking. A foreign policy that recognizes the problems that comes with different cultures and would not be hegemonous.
Uniters, not dividers
Vote the incumbents out of office, Dems or Repubs.
Vote for term limits when possible.
Those people, feeding at the government trough for years, and looking for ways to secure their positions takes precedent over doing anything really good for all Americans.
A little power is dangerous.

This comment is to tatersalad26 who says.. without regard for 'we the people.'

Let's look at REAL DISREGARD for 'we the people' in this REP held goverment.

Civil liberties are at an all-time low. There is no real free-speach any more. You can't even play video poker online without the government telling you that's now illegal, but we can sure watch porn still... yeah, that's fair.

This administration has lost more than $750 million, stolen from Iraq%u2019s Ministry of Defense. This is due to no oversight of their military spending, and the man they put in place of military purchasing for the new army had absolutely NO military OR purchasing experience. This is TYPICAL of the lack of reasonable oversight and planning and incredible stupidity on the part of this administration, when it comes to the war in Iraq. All this money could have done a LOT for 'we the people' here in America. Why haven't we spent the 3 Trillion here at home, rather than wasting it in Iraq? The money should have gone to 'we the people', no Halliburton and Cheney's croneys and the corporations getting rich rebuilding Iraq over and over again, so we can blow it up, and they can rebuild it.. ad nauseum.

We have a vast right-wing conspiracy and corruption. Cunningham in jail, Bob Ney is in Jail, Jack Abrahamhoff is in jail. We have a right-wing Kleptocracy, ie. a government or state in which those in power exploit national resources and steal; rule by a thief or thieves.

amsjoe, here are some more REAL FACTS for you...

If you want to compare job growth to Clinton:
Job growth under GWBush has seriously lagged job growth under Bill Clinton. Bush has averaged 2 million new jobs a year, Bill Clinton averaged OVER 2 million new jobs a year. Real take-home wages grew Much more during the Clinton years than during the Bush years.

Furthermore, Bush%u2019s promise to spend 8 million dollars a year to help the poor was all talk and no action. See David Kuo%u2019s book TEMPTING FAITH. There are 5 million more poor people today than when Bush took office. There are more people hungry today than in 2001 and yet the White House goes around touting what it has done for compassion. If someone actually took a look at what the White House has said on compassion vs what has actually been done on compassion could be one of the biggest scandels of the White House. Just look at Katrina as another example. Our pseudo-president was seen at his ranch playing guitar and later at a bar getting drunk, while hundreds of thousands of people went through a horror equal to or greater than what we saw on 9/11. With over 1,800 dead and 6,644 people unaccounted for, nearly 1,000 of the 6,644 unaccounted-for people are children. ...Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
