Want a home like Downton Abbey?

(MoneyWatch) Any true fan of the show "Downton Abbey," which airs Sunday nights on PBS, knows that the home where the show is filmed is a real place, although it's not called Downton Abbey.

Downton Abbey is actually Highclere Castle, nestled in the green hills about 70 miles east of London. Currently, the castle hosts weddings, exhibitions, as well as tours and is home to the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon.

The popularity of the show, aided by the striking scenes set at Highclere, has boosted interest in the post-Edwardian style as well as English architecture. The show features plenty of scenes where the characters stroll across their estate, deep in conversation, or have dinner in their long dining room, where the drama tends to unfold.

While you can't find many castles for sale in the U.S., there are plenty of homes for sale that share some of these qualities of Highclere Castle. They feature majestic exteriors, expansive dining rooms, huge lawns and gardens or architectural details that draw on the Jacobean or Georgian style that is reflected in the castle. Highclere Castle to the Oscars

What do the 85th Academy Awards, PBS' Downton Abbey, Knights Templar, and Super Bowl XLVII have in common?

They are all connected to each other (and consequently to millions of fans), through generation-by-generation family ties in the Family Forest.

Sounds impossible?
