Mindy McCready died on same porch as "soul mate"
(CBS News) Country music star Mindy McCready has been found dead, in an apparent suicide, according to authorities. She was 37.
Her body was found Sunday on the porch of her home in Heber Springs, Ark., with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Her death comes just weeks after David Wilson -- the singer's boyfriend and father of her 10-month-old son -- was believed to have killed himself. McCready said in an interview on Jan. 29, "He didn't just touch my heart. He touched my soul. He was my soulmate."
Like McCready, Wilson's body was found on the same porch.
Shane Tallant, a friend of McCready's said, "I think it obviously speaks on the pain that she was feeling, that, for whatever reason, she chose to go to the same location and do the same thing that he did."
McCready burst onto the music scene when she was just 18. McCready's quick success was followed by a slow and painful unraveling.
She rose to country music fame in 1996 with her debut album "Ten Thousand Angels." But it was her life outside the recording studio that stole the spotlight.
Tallant said, "You can just Google and you'll see the images that pop up. I mean she's got several mug shots."
On top of stints in and out of jail and rehab, the singer was plagued by a long list of other problems. Eight years ago, Billy McKnight -- the father of her oldest son -- was charged with attempting to kill her.
In 2008, she made headlines again over a rumored affair with baseball pitching legend Roger Clemens that reportedly started in her teens.
Two years later on CBS News, she addressed reports that she had tried to commit suicide twice. McCready said on June 23, 2010, "I was never in a state in which I was conscious and with it and said, 'Oh I want to die.'"
