Kate Middleton delivers first overseas speech
(CBS News) Kate Middleton is touring East Asia alongside her husband, Prince William, as part of their Diamond Jubilee Tour of the region. Today, the Duchess of Cambridge made her first overseas speech -- only her second public speech -- at a hospice facility in Malaysia.
Middleton said that the couple is "hugely excited to be in Malaysia" for their first ever visit before turning to praise the work of Hospis Malaysia.
"It has been wonderful meeting the patients, families and all the staff here," she said before adding her admiration for the facility for "providing children and their family with a place of support, care, and enhancement at a time of great need."
Reporting from Malaysia for "CBS This Morning" on Thursday, CBS News' Seth Doane said the duchess still seems to be getting her footing as a public speaker and noted that her approximately two-minute speech was "heavy on pleasantries" and "almost timid."
The royal duo toured a war memorial in Singapore on Thursday morning, before moving on to Malaysia for lunch with the prime minister and the hospice tour.
