Best paint colors for every room in your house 2013
Compare this year's trends with the "Best Paint Colors for Every Room in Your House 2012."
(MoneyWatch) Kick off the New Year in style with a fresh, fun update to your home. From bold greens and blues to subdued grays, Pantone's Spring 2013 Color Report highlights the best paint colors for every room in your house.
Pantone has been the world's color authority for more than 50 years and sets color standards for a variety of industries including paints, textiles and fashion.
A few coats of paint in 2013's hottest colors like "Monaco Blue," "African Violet" and "Alloy" will instantly liven up your space.
"The expression 'balancing act' is something we all relate to as we strive to find harmony in the frantic pace of our everyday lives," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release. "This season's color palette emphasizes this need for balance, while at the same time allowing for individuality, self-expression and excitement."

If you're not ready to commit to paint in these on-trend colors, bring them in with accent pieces like rugs, pillows and artwork.
Bedroom. If you can only revamp one room in 2013, the bedroom should be it. It's the place you go to relax and rejuvenate, so choose a paint color that encourages you to slow down. For a truly spa-like feel, go for a light blue or green like "Dusk Blue" or "Grayed Jade." Add some candles, luxurious sheets and a neutral-toned rug and you'll find it impossible to be stressed in this space.
Kitchen. For most households, the kitchen is the heart of the home. Bring it to life with vibrant "Lemon Zest" yellow. Yellow walls look great with light cabinetry and instantly brighten up a kitchen with dim lighting or few windows. If you're not crazy about a yellow kitchen, try it as an accent wall first. Or, leave your walls neutral and bring in touches of yellow with towels, rugs and kitchen accessories.
Master Bathroom. The master bathroom is the perfect place to bring in Pantone's Color of the Year for 2013: "Emerald." "Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today's complex world," Eiseman says. This jewel-toned hue is an elegant addition to any master bathroom, no matter how small. It's great as both a paint and glass tile color, so don't be afraid to experiment.
Home-office. A home office walks a fine line between work and family space. It needs to be functional, but attractive enough to be part of your home when not in use. To keep your office on-trend without being distracting, try a neutral khaki like "Tidal Foam." It's a classic hue that flatters any style -- the perfect backdrop for both classic and contemporary home-office decor.
Family Room. Whether you're watching TV or enjoying game night, the family room should reflect the fun you have there. Brighten up your space with a splash of "Poppy Red" or an orange tone like "Nectarine." You may not want to cover the walls with these colors, but an accent wall or two should be just the pop your family room needs. If you prefer cooler tones, consider a green like "Tender Shoots" -- it's bright, but won't overwhelm a room if used on all the walls.
