Ladies, think a good man is hard to find? Not in these towns, which according to research conducted by Rent.com, represent the top ten cities for single men.
One of the premiere players in the rental housing industry, the company recently surveyed single men who
lease their homes rather than own to try and uncover some common behavioral trends. Among the more interesting statistics:- 39 percent of single men rent, while 47 percent pay a mortgage and 14 percent are couch surfing with parents, friends or other family members. And those couch surfers definitely skew young - a staggering 46 percent of single adult men under age 25 live rent-free. (Hello, Mom?)
- Conventional wisdom says housing costs should consume about 25 percent of your monthly budget. However, single men who don't live at home seem willing to pay much more for convenience and proximity to the office. Some 38 percent spend between 25 and 50 percent of their monthly income on rent, while 7 percent pay more than half.
- Beware the mama's boy stereotype: while 87 percent of bachelors claim to clean their own apartments, another 5 percent call mom when the mess gets out of hand.

So now that we have some idea of the patterns of single male renters, what are the cities that these bachelors are most likely to call home? Surprisingly, Juneau, Alaska, is not on the list.

Anyone else think a survey of how many men are renting/homeowners/living-at-home may not have terribly accurate results when it's conducted by RENT.COM?!?! And then comes the big reveal of the carefully selected cities and .........: the Top Ten Best Cities for Single Men just happens to include 7 of the 8 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. In other words, by not applying any serious analysis to the question the producers of this list have come up with nearly the exact same list they could justifiably publish for the Ten Worst Cities for Single Men, Ten Best Places to Get Chinese Food, Ten Best Places to Find Women with Big Ankles, Ten Cities with the Best Movie Concession Stands, Ten Places You're Most Likely to Slip on a Sidewalk, etc. Seems like they randomly threw in San Antonio & Baltimore to try to provide some vague sense of legitimacy or significance to the list. (... though Baltimore does have some GREAT movie concession stands and particularly slippery sidewalks!) They failed.
(Mostly, i'm just bitter at having been led to a four-month old article that was on a silly subject to begin with and which I *thought* was gonna tell us single dudes where it's easiest to meet chicks!) =:~P
If you chose New Orleans, be sure
to locate in the Vieux Carre, or
along St. Charles to the levy. Those
are the two areas which are the oldest,
because of their height and didn't flood
during Katrina. Better yet, check out the
North Lake (Lake Pontchartrain) Parishes.
St. Tammany for luxury and Tangipahoa and
Livingston for towering pines and live oaks
on affordable and fertile land. Bienvenue!
yes there are some nice bars around baltimore, fells point, fed hill, etc. but a successful guy makes out like a champ with an area surrounded by white trash. so guys buy a house, keep your job, and enjoy the area. we are a rare commodity in an area where women are more successful than men and are looking for a good looking non lazy man.
the worst part about maryland is the taxes though, we should really mention that.
Get out there and get a life you blokes.

What is "white trash"? And be careful, you don't want to make yourself out as being a racist in your response...
