LinkedIn: Top 10 Resume Words to Avoid

Wondering how to make you resume stand out from the crowd? LinkedIn has released the most overused words and phrases in members' profiles.

The top 10 terms to avoid include:

1. Extensive experience

2. Innovative

3. Motivated

4. Results-oriented

5. Dynamic

6. Proven track record

7. Team player

8. Fast-paced

9. Problem solver

10. Entrepreneurial

And while you're sprucing up your resume this holiday season, the professional networking site has some advice for LinkedIn's own users. Admittedly, some of it is a bit self-serving - but they had a couple of smart tips that were worth passing along.

Accentuate Your Profile

Make sure your LinkedIn profile is complete and includes all the roles you have had. You are 12 times more likely to be viewed for potential opportunities if you have more than one position listed on your profile, the company says. Also, LinkedIn suggests you add a profile photo ?€" people never forget a face. (Although you may want to read my MoneyWatch colleague Carla Fried's post first: Study Finds Pretty Women Don't Get Hired.)

Lift Your Profile in Search Results

Have you done a Google search for your name? If you haven't, you should. People are Googling you before meetings and interviews. Get your LinkedIn profile to come up higher in search results by customizing your profile URL.

I have found an amazing website for helping write a LinkedIn profile. It checks the quality of words used in a Linkedin profile.
The address is http://www.cvwordchecker.com

It is free of charge , there is no registration or anything to install.
Using this I was able to build a profile properly.
