Saint Laurent's Perfect Beach House
(MoneyWatch)
In case you're in the market (*wink*), it's known as Villa Mabrouka -- House of Luck -- with five bedrooms, staff quarters, and a pool house. This is the former estate of the late designer Yves Saint Laurent, located in Tangier, Morocco, and it's now for sale, according to real estate brokerage Christie's Great Estates.
The property, according to our friends at the real estate blog Realestalker, is designer heaven, with nearly 2 acres of gardens landscaped by Madison Cox, who New York magazine named "Best Garden Designer" three years ago. (No one has won the award since; it's just that, well, the economy has changed, so we are quieter about our garden designers and our Morocco houses, aren't we?)
The interior is by noted French designer Jacques Grange.
The villa, with four bathrooms, overlooks the Strait of Gibraltar, with "180 degree views over the gardens and sea" as the listing puts it. And in case you were wondering, there's no price on the listing, because if you have to ask ....
If you want a YSL souvenir that's a little cheaper, though, Christie's is holding an auction of art from the collection that he shared with his partner Pierre Berge (Our condolences on your loss, Monsieur Berge) November 17-19 in Paris. Proceeds from the sale will benefit HIV research, the auction house said.
