Google Notebook Adds New Features

If you're not acquainted with Google Notebook, you should be. It lets you clip and organize portions of Web pages, just like ripping articles out of newspapers and magazines. Google recently updated the service, adding Gmail-style labels for easier organization of your clips. For example, when you save an impossibly handy Business Hacks post like this one, you can assign labels like, "BNET," "hacks," "productivity," "outlook," "calendar," and so on. All your labels appear in a newly added box that makes for easy browsing.

If you're a Google Bookmarks user, you'll discover a new notebook titled "Unfiled." It contains all your bookmarks and any labels you'd previously applied to them. Interestingly, if you add a new clip to the Unfiled notebook, it'll appear in Google Bookmarks as well. In other words, the two services are now cross-connected.

Finally, Google updated the Notebook browser extension, which lets you save clips from any page you're viewing. Now you can select the desired text and click the little star inside the Notebook pop-up to immediately save a note.

Google Notebook is free, fairly easy to use (it might seem a little confusing at first, but keep at it), and insanely useful. I highly recommend it. [via Google Operating System]
