(Episode 431; 22 minutes 29) Margaret Thatcher famously declared that she only needed four hours sleep a night. She might not be the best example of good living, of course. She seems to have turned a little loopy in her old age!

We all have our own patterns of sleep which might change as we age. The danger is that we adapt to emerging disorders, accepting the resulting daytime sleepiness. You might start excusing yourself for nodding off in the weekly staff meeting because the meetings just aren't that interesting. Or you might blame your snoring during a trip to the movies on predictable plots and bad acting.

In today's BTalk podcast Shanta Rajaratnam from the School of Psychology, Psychiarty and Psychological Medicine at Monash University, explains the types of sleep disorder, its impacts and how to fix it. We also hear from Jeff Kirby, former NSW President of Sleep Disorders Australia. Jeff talks about his experience with sleep apnea.

For more information visit your GP. You can also do a bit of background research by visiting the Sleep Disorders Australia website, or by calling them on 02 9990 3514. Good luck!
