Job Hopper: All Hell Breaks Loose
(MoneyWatch)
Wow. I mean -- wow. Apparently I struck a nerve with my post last week about whether you would (or should) hire a job hopper. The pro-hop faction seems to have a slight edge over the anti-hop faction, judging by your comments. The debate was fierce. Grenades were flung, insults were exchanged, and I was attacked as "lazy and opinionated," but I believe we have now entered a period of cease-fire.
So maybe it's a good time [donning helmet and body armor] to re-enter the fray.
After reading all the comments, I noticed a couple of consistent charges: that employees, not managers, were defending job-hopping, and that managers didn't take circumstances into account often enough.
Fair criticisms? Let's see. I'm inviting you all to chime in again, this time with a couple of polls. For our purposes, let's define job hopping as having multiple jobs that lasted a year or less. And of course, your comments are always welcome.
Ready... aim... fire at will!
