Tech Law: Dell Settles Discrimination Suit, Intel Appeals Fine, Browser Choice, More

Dell settles employment gender discrimination suit -- Dell has agreed to settle a gender-discrimination class action suit by former employees for $9.1 million, though apparently only $5.6 million will go for payments to class members and to cover litigation costs. The rest goes to raise female employee base pay to the level of male employees. How little enlightenment costs. [Source: AP]

Intel appeals EU fine -- Like this was a surprise: Intel is appealing the $1.5 billion antitrust fine levied by the European Union. The company is denying charges of paying money to business partners to freeze out AMD. [Source: CNET]

Microsoft offers browser choice in Europe -- Hoping to avoid further antitrust action, Microsoft is proposing, and the EU is apparently accepting, a proposal to offer European consumers a "ballot screen" so they can choose a browser other than Internet Explorer. And here we thought that many people were already doing just that. [Source: EU Press Release]

Apple backs off wiki suit -- Apple, at least for now, is backing down from a threat of legal action against the web site Bluwiki, which offers information on how to sync iTunes with non-Apple products. [Source: AppleInsider]

Video game trade group sues Chicago transit -- The Entertainment Software Association is suing the Chicago Transit Authority over a ban on ads for games rated mature or adult. [Source: AP]
