Tech Legal Week: Apple Patent Warnings, Midway Files, Sirius and Charter May, More
(MoneyWatch) Did Google blink first? Will Palm? -- A report claims that Google omitted multi-touch features from the Android interface at Apple's request. In the meantime, Palm says it is more focused on finishing the Pre than a potential patent fight. [Source: AppleInsider on Google, and Palm]
Microsoft has antitrust defender -- A U.S. antitrust expert calls the new EU investigation into charges that Microsoft Internet Explorer stifled competition to be "dumb." [Source: Computerworld]
Financial battle of Midway -- Midway Games filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. [Source: RedHerring]
Charter also to file -- Charter Communications has said that it will file for bankruptcy by April 1 because of bad debt. [Source: The New York Times]
Sirius XM could file by tomorrow -- Sirius XM Radio, facing big debt coming due and not enough money, has said that it could file for bankruptcy by Tuesday should it not be able to renegotiate the terms of its debt. Some creditors may seek ouster of company CEO Mel Karmazin. [Source: Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal]
CA and rocket science -- CA has settled its $200 million suit against Rocket Software for an undisclosed amount. CA had alleged that Rocket hired former CA employees and obtained its intellectual property. [Source: Computerworld]
Electronic evidence company grilled for bad electronic evidence -- An arbitrator in a lawsuit is apparently accusing Guidance Software, which specializes in unearthing electronic documents required under so-called e-discovery court rules, of gross negligence and bad faith in not turning up its own documents when required.
