The 10 Weirdest Drug Stories of the Month
(MoneyWatch) We're a little late, but here are the 10 weirdest drug stories that popped up onto BNET's radar during March. They were all too small to write about, but too strange to ignore:
Did GlaxoSmithKline unwittingly reveal that Wynnona Judd's latest album has been heavily photoshopped?
John Mack compares the pics side by side, and concludes that the shots she had taken for the Alli campaign are more likely to be the real Judd.- Fatal overdose of Viagra kills Russian in 12-hour orgy A man who bet two women he could keep up with them in a 12-hour sex session downed a bottle of Viagra -- and then died. At least he won the bet that led to the act, though ...
- Sidney Taurel's house is totally awesome In IguanaBio's ongoing series of photographs of the houses of the rich and famous important drug executives, Eli Lilly's Taurel appears to be living in a faux French chateau.
- Pfizer may have a bridge it can sell you ... Having blown $1.3 billion on failed insulin product Exubera, Pfizer finds a buyer for its old factory. Mannkind paid $33 million for the white elephant.
- Does a virus cause diabetes? Researchers believe an infection may be to blame for the Type 1 variant of the condition; looking for a vaccine.
- Pfizer fined for firing employee who took leave to adopt a child Man had worked at the company for 15 years and took two trips to Russia to get his new daughter. Company must pay $660,000.
- The crap that sales reps have to put up with Wyeth sales rep "Barney," who hawks antidepressants, has a conversation about Wyeth v. Levine with an insane blogger ... and the rest is recorded for history.
- Pfizer promotes cure for pig smell The good news? It no longer involves having your balls cut off.
- After layoffs, migraine drug company down to just three employees Guess which TorreyPines execs survived the cut? That's right, the CEO, CFO and general counsel. Doubtless they can do their phase 2 studies without the scientists ...
- Video: punk rocker John Otway does gig at Pfizer Quoting verbatim from the statement on YouTube: "Peter Cook - author of 'Sex, Leadership and Rock'n'Roll' performs with cult punk rocker / two hit wonder John Otway at Pfizer as the 'aftershow' at a Conference where we discussed career development from the alternative perspectives of business, science and rock music." You had to be there, I guess. Hat tip to Peter Rost for discovering that.
