Church of Scientology Loses Legal Fight With Advertising Recruitment Agency

By
Jim Edwards
(MoneyWatch)  The Church of Scientology has lost a legal battle with an advertising recruitment agency over whether it owns trademark rights to the word "Prosperity" in Ireland.

Prosperity Recruitment's battle against Scientoloy started, according to Irish tech news site ENN, when the agency tried to register "Prosperity" as one of its trademarks.

Scientology objected, claiming that it already owned a mark that used the term. After "much difficulty," according to the agency, the trade mark office accepted Prosperity's right to its own name:
Prosperity Director, Gary Mullan [pictured] said: "It is amusing that an Irish recruitment company's services could be considered to be a close match to the goods and 'services' described by the Scientologists".
