Facebook Serving Spouses' Pics in "Hot Singles" Ads

(MoneyWatch)  Get prepared to see your spouse and friends' faces popping up in those annoying little ads on Facebook. Agency Social Media is scraping Facebook for photos from your albums and then inserting them in ads served on your page.

That's how Cheryl Smith of culturesmith consulting found her face in a singles ad directed at her husband (pictured). Via Adland:

Not too long ago, my husband Peter had this ad appear on his Facebook page. Good thing we both have a sense of humor!

Social Media was quoted by Adlands earlier:

We believe displaying friend pictures and first names within Facebook ads makes the content more relevant for you, and that you benefit from seeing relevant ads rather than being exposed to ads that may not have any meaning to you.

Just like information, there's relevancy, and then there's too much relevancy.

The doubtless-effective ads appear to take advantage of Facebook's terms of service, which state that Facebook basically owns all the content you upload onto its pages even though the company promises to never take advantage of that.
