BBDO Lays Off Another 20; Hill Holiday Cuts 10
(MoneyWatch) Another day, another round of layoffs in ad agency land. BBDO in Bangkok laid off 20 people, according to Brand Republic. And Hill Holliday Connors Cosmopulos in Boston laid off 10 people, less than 3 percent of its staff, according to the Boston Business Journal. (Side note: The BR report is illustrated, inexplicably, with a hand reaching out of a bed for a cactus.)
In what is probably a more serious move, Hill Holliday did this last month:
The cuts bring the BNET Ad Agency Layoff Counter to 6,624. It's a sad time all round at Hill Holliday. Name partner Alan Holliday passed away, age 72, this week.
BBDO in North America has its own problems. It laid off 189 staffers recently as Omnicom looks to remove 3,500 staff from its rolls.
In what is probably a more serious move, Hill Holliday did this last month:
The agency announced it will move its New York-based agency's studio to Erwin-Penland in Greenville, South Carolina. Approximately 50 studio staffers have been given the option to move to the new location. So that's about 50 New Yorkers who will probably choose unemployment over Greenville. (Sorry, Greenville, that's just the way it is.)
