Economic Update from the Shore: No Green Shoots at the Beach

By
Jill Schlesinger
(MoneyWatch)  I was hanging out in Surf City, NJ this weekend when I wondered "Where is everybody?" Oh sure the weather wasn't ideal, but it's mid-June and the place was DEAD.

The action and mood at the Jersey Shore seemed to belie "less-bad" economic news, including the fact that job loss is tapering off (not growing, mind you) and a potential bottoming in some real estate markets (evidently not on Long Beach Island where there are still plenty of houses for sale and rent.)

What about everyone saying that the summer will see the end of the recession? Moneywatch blogger John Keefe isn't quite so sure.
