BRAC Related Construction Continues in San Antonio
(MoneyWatch) One of the major places that benefited from the last round of BRAC is San Antonio. The U.S. Department of Defense moved to consolidate all medical training in that city. It had long been home to major U.S. Air Force medical facilities but now the Navy and Army will also move their capabilities there. The San Antonio Business Journal announces that three more contracts have been awarded to construct BRAC related facilities in that city. In total almost two billion dollars of construction will be required by the BRAC moves. One of the contracts, $64 million to MCC/Catamount LLC, is for the constriction of a large field training complex to allow students to practice under more realistic conditions. The last of the instructional facilities required by the moves was also awarded to Innovative Technical Solutions and Toltest was awarded the third contract to build an Intelligence Operations Center. The BRAC related moves will require substantial investment at several bases as the U.S. military moves units from Korea and Germany back to the U.S. as well as consolidating research, test and training facilities.
