Federal Government Buys Equipment from GE Healthcare

(MoneyWatch)  The U.S. Government issued two separate contracts with GE Healthcare in order to access their medical equipment and support services. The two contracts each have one base year and up to nine option years. The Wisconsin Technology Network reports that the contracts have a total combined value of over $600 million if all options are exercised. The first year for the contracts is worth $63 million. These vehicles will allow the U.S military, Veterans Affairs and other departments to purchase patient monitoring devices for use in their facilities. They also provide for other GE Healthcare products for use in diagnostics, monitoring and treatment of a variety of ailments and situations. The U.S. government provides for the health care of millions of active duty military, their dependents, retirees and veterans as well as Native Americans among others. These contracts allow flexibility to buying necessary equipment and care at hopefully competitive prices.
