U.S. Charges EMC With Bribery

(MoneyWatch)  The large scale storage vendor, EMC Corp, revealed in a recent securities filing that the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating it for bribing partners to gain Federal contracts. Computerworld also reports that it is accused of providing "inaccurate or noncurrent pricing for its products". EMC denies the charges and says that some of the complaints date back several years. In 2007 EMC and several of its partners paid fines to settle with the U.S. government over charges it paid kickbacks to other companies to gain work. These charges have been brought under the False Claims Act as they relate to payment for services not necessarily properly provided. The U.S. government along with the European Union has moved recently to settle several other large cases of contractors bribing either foreign governments or other companies.
