Obama Administration to Delay Defense Budget Submission to Congress

(MoneyWatch)  The Fiscal Year 2010 Defense Budget was due to be submitted on February 2nd but the incoming Obama administration has decided to delay it until April. The official press release is at Defenselink.mil. The budget is normally required to be in Congress at least at the top level on the first Monday in February. This is the budget the was started to be prepared last May. This delay is not unprecedented when there is a change in Administration like this. In 1992 two separate budgets were submitted. The Bush one in February and a modified Clinton in May. It is hard to predict what significant changes there will be to the budget as Obama kept the Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, and has had little headway in getting his Pentagon appointments confirmed so far.
