Candian Government Accused that It Fails Aerospace Industries
(MoneyWatch) The companies and employees that make up the Canadian aerospace industries are angry with the government over not getting significant portions of new aircraft contracts. The majority of these have gone to U.S firms and there has been little work shared or offset. The Calgary Herald reports that the industry is concerned that core capabilities will be eroded as more work goes to the U.S. Canadian companies while they cannot produce advanced tactical fixed wing and rotorcraft have the ability to build parts, assemblies and provide support. Canada operates F-18 aircraft and will eventually replace them with F-35 JSF. They have also bought helicopters from Sikorsky and Boeing recently to replace aging aircraft. Canadian companies feel that the government should make a better effort in negotiating these contracts to require more Canadian content and support.
