Construction Dollars Flow to Wright-Patterson AFB Due to BRAC
(MoneyWatch) The Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process' last round moved several USAF research and training facilities to Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio. This article at Dayton B2B discusses the latest contract awarded to build new facilities at the base to house these moved organizations. Better Built Construction Services received a $40 million contract to build housing for students. In total over $300 million has been spent on the construction related to BRAC. Redstone Arsenal in Alabama is also seeing significant new construction as is Fort Benning in Georgia as they receive larger headquarters and units. BRAC is supposed to save money in the long term as it seems strange that to save money hundreds of million of dollars need to be spent on new buildings and infrastructure.
