Maytag Aircraft to Diversify to Counter Possible Downturn in Defense Budgets

(MoneyWatch)  The Colorado Springs Gazette writes that Maytag Aircraft who is the main supplier of terminal and cargo handling for the USAF is looking to try and get more commercial, non-defense work in the future. The company has just been awarded a large contract to begin doing fuel service operations at U.S. bases in Europe. This replaces the USAF personnel currently doing it. In case, though, there is a downturn after the Obama administration takes over the company is looking at doing commercial work with other companies. The company has teamed with NBP and Red Orange LLC to look at what contracts are available. Their current main focus is a contract to run the airfield at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In the long run the company hopes to branch out into providing services at commercial airports in the U.S. and supporting the FAA.
