Diversification is Key to a Defense Contractor
(MoneyWatch) Today Cubic Corporation was awarded two different contracts by two different governments to do two completely different things. The City of San Francisco gave the company a $18 M contract to upgrade the fare systems on the city's buses and mass transit parking system. The US Army through the prime contractor for the Javelin anti-tank missile, Raytheon-Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture, awarded the company a $10 M contract to provide components for the Javelin field training device.
Cubic Corporation primarily makes systems to support military training and simulations; but obviously provides other IT services as well. The fare system has been in development since 1991 and provides more to the user then just counting money. It allows the system to track usage patterns as well. One of the benefits of being a software development, or IT services company, is that it allows you to serve a variety of customers with both military and non-military applications.
