Department of Defense Investing in Simulations for Mass Epidemic Training
(MoneyWatch) The US Department of Defense awarded SimQuest a contract to develop a game based training simulator to prepare medical professionals to deal with a mass flu epidemic. MarketWatch.com has the press release. The contract is part of the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program at DoD.
The SBIR program allows DoD, the Services and other Federal and State agencies to reach out to small businesses who are conducting pure and applied research in a variety of areas. Each year a list of what kind of technologies and products that are required is released. Companies then bid on what work they think they can do and are funded through the SBIR program. The SBIR program is administered here at this webpage. This program provides a way for both the government and business to work together when in the past they would not even know of the requirement or the existence of the work.
