Pharma Roundup: Teva and Lilly, Roche and Genentech, and More
(MoneyWatch) Teva's next target: Lilly? -- Teva has made a name for itself by playing a risky game in which it begins to manufacture generic versions of big name drugs while the originals are still officially under patent protection. The Israeli company has made such moves 13 times since 2004, and Bloomberg predicts the 14th target might be Lilly's osteoporosis treatment Evista. [Source: Bloomberg]
Doubt continues over Roche's Genentech aspirations -- Apparently the deal can't go forward without a $45 billion loan, something analysts find increasingly unlikely. Roche's commitment remains firm, however. [Source: The New York Times]
Analyst says EU has declared "war on pharma" -- As the European Union's regulatory bodies scrutinize long-held ideas about good pharma business, it may become more difficult for companies to compete.
