(MoneyWatch)  Amylin cuts 340 jobs -- The San Diego-based company, whose diabetes drug Byetta has seen slow sales due to safety concerns, will lose approximately one quarter of its workforce. [Source: PharmaTimes]

UBS predicts trouble for Sanofi -- According to the firm's analysts, 86% of the current sales of Sanofi-Aventis products will be exposed to generic competition by 2014, and the drug maker's last big non-vaccine release was in 2001. [Source: MarketWatch, via Corey Nahman]

Factory roundup: Pfizer selling, Glaxo closing -- Looking to buy a pharmaceuticals factory? Pfizer is selling a Terre Haute, Indiana facility which once employed 800 people. It has gone unused since Exubera, the inhaled insulin product the plant manufactured, went off the market. Meanwhile, GlaxoSmithKline will close its plant in Dartford, England, by 2013. 620 workers currently produce Lamictal and Valtrex, both of which are facing patent expiration.
