Glenn Beck More Popular Than Ever Despite Boycott

(MoneyWatch)  The Glenn Beck Program now likely earns less in advertising than it costs to produce, according to my colleague Jim Edwards at BNET Advertising, who's been providing diligent coverage of the growing boycott against the Fox News Channel talk show host.

It started when Beck called President Barack Obama a racist with a "deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture." Procter & Gamble was one of the first companies to pulls its ads in response, followed by dozens of others, including Wal-Mart, ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft, Dannon, Sargento and Applebee's.

The total number of companies now disassociating themselves with Beck is close to 60, but Fox is still getting the money. The companies are simply requesting that Fox not air their ads during that particular show.

Meanwhile the controversy has garnered even more attention for Beck, who is inflammatory to the point of seeming unstable. Since his initial boycott-inspiring Obama comments, he has joked about killing members of congress and compared Americorps to the SS.
