Do you have trouble recognizing faces? Take a test

This week on "60 Minutes" Lesley Stahl reports on people who are "face blind." It's a mysterious and sad condition that keeps sufferers from recognizing or identifying faces -- even the faces of close family members, children, or spouses. Many "face blind" people don't even know they have it.

If you suspect you might be "face blind," in the above video, you'll find a test that may provide an answer. We show you a series of pictures of famous people and ask you to figure out who they are.

I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to do this since I've tried others so-called spells casters and they did not work and was a waste of my time and money. I never believed in love spells or magic until i met this spell caster once when i went to Africa in February this year on a business summit. Suddenly through some event we met together and we promised we will be together for ever. Both of us are married and not satisfied with the present spouse. For me it was just a movie thing though I was ready to try anything to get my husband back, which I did with this spell prophetharry@ymail.com 've cast for me.I think I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't this spell caster. by transaction7-2009 December 10, 2012 2:26 AM EST: I have some uncorrectable vision limitations and, we only discovered later, agenesis of the corpus collossum which connects the right and left hemispheres of hte brain. The experts who discovered this think that, since I can sometimes recognize but not put a name with someone, but more often can't recognize a face, even a familiar face, at least until about kissing distance, this is probably due to problems with connection and communicatin between one hemisphere which usually stores visual and one which usually stores verbal data. Some of my functions are done on the other side than most people. Could the face blindness you discuss come from breaks in such connections?

When they first discovered this, they thought it was new damage and figured I had lost my higher mental faculties (I was suffering deep depression) until they noted that I had just tested in the 97th percentile in verbal ability but could not do one test of higher math ability using picture representations at all. We had always attributd my facial recognition problems to my vision limitation but that is not what this new data indicates.; Reply to this comment


by adrenaldoctor August 6, 2012 4:34 PM EDT: The scientists taking MRI's of the individual's in your story may be overlooking the role of neuro-transmitters and their receptors in the area of the brain linked to "face blindness" - especially in those individuals whose
MRI results are normal. Perhaps a functional MRI may be warranted as well as a blood test to identify the classification and concentration of neuro-transmitters that should be in this area of the brain.

by happyfeetkaty August 5, 2012 8:04 PM EDT: I an remember addresses, phone numbers, the words to every song I've heard twice. I remember faces only after I get to know someone. It is embarrassing, but if I don't recognize someone, I just admit that I have a "short circuit" when it comes to remembering faces. Most people don't seem to mind, once I say that. by erincon23 August 5, 2012 8:00 PM EDT: I've come to the conclusion over the last couple of years that I also have this problem -- not to the extent that I can't recognize anyone, but I can think of at least 3 instances where I KNOW I should have known the person. One was someone I co-chaired a group with, and I saw her at the grocery store about two years after we were no longer involved in this group. She had a distinctive voice, and after about a week, it finally dawned on me who she was. Another time, I spent several hours with someone who was new to our group, in a social situation one on one (with our kids); when I saw her the next week at our meeting, I had no idea who she was, and I'm sure she thought I was stuck up. But I've learned to give myself clues to who new people are -- oh, this deep voice is so-and-so, etc. It's actually reassuring to know that I'm not just forgetful or stupid!; Reply to this comment
