The things we learned about Steven Tyler

If you've watched Aersomith's Steven Tyler on "American Idol," you know he's an irrepressible flirt. But is he always like that? According to 60 Minutes correspondent Lara Logan, flirting comes as naturally as breathing for Tyler.

Logan joined Tyler and his bandmates on tour in South America recently, and when the Overtime team reviewed the footage of her trip, we had fun just watching (from a dank, windowless office).

Logan and Tyler clearly hit it off right away. Just moments after they met, Tyler complimented our correspondent on her jacket. As it turned out, Tyler owned the same ladies' jacket!

Steven was so entertaining in the behind-the-scenes footage, that we couldn't resist including more antics in a second Overtime piece that covers his relationship with guitarist Joe Perry-- and the remarkable way that Tyler secretly keeps himself entertained during long Aerosmith concerts.

Afterall, she was involved in a love triangle with a CNN foreign correspondent and a defense contractor in Iraq while her husband was babysitting their toddler back home. She wore those tea shirts with a bra in front of soldiers who were deployed for months without a woman around, and CBS didn't see fit to throw her butt off the staff instead they put her on 60 minutes. Tyler is an insane MF, while their music was good, they think they're better then the Beatles and Stones? Give a MF break. This is a one dimensional band.; Reply to this comment

It was ridiculous pitting Steven against Joe, everyone does that. it's old news and inconclusive. She didn't know what made that story valuable, so she went for a Steven is a jerk angle. by Satirist March 12, 2012 3:06 PM EDT: Newton Minow is rolling over in his grave! (Look him up and remember the name; the smartypants on JEOPARDY didn't have a clew about this early media giant). I'm refering to the "60 Minutes" segment on the Aerosmith Band and weird Steven Tyler. This guy/gal takes the cake for being off the wall, albeit he is a decent enough performer (certainly couldn't hold a candle to Liberace) and on "American Idol" he gives good head when it comes to making critiques. I keep wondering, "how often does he bathe? Does he wipe? What if he tried to kiss me? (Yes, I do carry a pistol permit) Is there lice in that matted hair? Is the audience of screamers defectors from OPRAH? Is our country totally deranged with people on stage like Tyler? Should I give up my passport and move to Canada? Enough trash talk. It's good to see Lara Logan on "60 Minutes" with her sexy charm and engaging smile. Hopefully, she will stay away from the rogue countries where a woman can be kidnapped, mauled, raped and wounded. Sleazy? This is rock n' roll and Steven Tyler! Wonder if Steven would like to refund my probably $10.00 ticket from the 70's when I saw them and he and Joe were so screwed up they could barely play. He admitted that in your interview and it was indeed a terrible show I saw. Haven't seen them since. Those kind of things tend to leave a lasting impression.

I did promotions for several years and got to spend time backstage with numerous bands. I would bring them product and most were very appreciative. And even the heavy metal bands often requested items for their families. I learned as bands age they tend to bring the kids along and the truly outrageous behavior gets left behind. But I saw some pretty crazy things too. Especially things fans would do to get closer to their idols.

Steven, like most frontmen has a wide open personality. A necessary trait for his profession. There is major talent required to be able to captivate and move a massive crowd and it is surely a rare thing. And to look at physical damage it has done (especially to his feet) you understand just how strenous it is to do what he does.; Reply to this comment


by bill5977 March 11, 2012 8:15 PM EDT: Aerosmith was THE best band of the 70's and early 80's, then the long torrent of relentless teenage girlfriend ballads began. It's as though they forgot what rock and roll was and what it was all about. As far as I'm concerned, Tyler has been a has been for a long time and the best thing the band could do is replace him with a true rock and roll singer and leave him to go the way of Rod Stewart. Aerosmith will rock again, when they decide to. It worked for Van Halen didn't it?; Reply to this comment


by CurtisMary01 March 11, 2012 8:10 PM EDT: I thought Laura Logan's interview with Aerosmith was sleazy. It looked like daytime TV, reminiscent of Murray Povich or Jerry Springer. Was she intentionally trying to create problems within the band, in advance of their tour, so she could talk about it later? Very disappointing for 60 Minutes
