Mark Wahlberg's Real-Life Entourage

Actor Mark Wahlberg grew up on the streets of Dorchester, Mass. and has not forgotten where he came from. While shooting this week's "60 Minutes" report on Wahlberg's new movie, we went home with Wahlberg -- to the streets of his youth and to his home in Los Angeles. As we'll show you in this Overtime Original video [video has expired], wherever Wahlberg goes, his entourage follows.

by xavierNOW November 23, 2010 12:55 PM EST: I think the piece was "lacking". I think "glazing" over the fact that he took someone's eye out, a veteran no less, is horrible. Did he ever try to look the guy up, or see how he's doing? How is it he only served 45 days for a 3 year sentence and ends up a rich and famous man, while the Vietnamese war veteran ends up without an eye? It's wrong that 60 minutes gives him this hero type of advertisement and not ask the hard questions such as addressing the worse thing he's done in life.; Reply to this comment


by yooperfem November 23, 2010 6:54 AM EST: He was one of nine kids. No wonder he was on the streets, no room for him at home. It looks like pa bred the old lady back in shortly after giving birth for many years. There were large families like that when I grew up. Pa would go to work and then hang out at the local watering hole to escape the chaos. Unless there was a close adult relative (or in Mark's case, a priest) to serve as a foster parent, the kids raised themselves. It was more "Lord of the Flies" than "Yours, Mine, and Ours."; Reply to this comment

Wouldve been nice to see them mention Turtle, the real life Turtle passed away in a motorcycle accident a couple years ago. Good to hear Markys story, im from the Boston area, and i went thru alot of the same struggles as him, and have been in the middle of turnin my life around. The Wahlbergs are just as much hometown heroes as Mickey Ward and Larry. Much respect Mark.

by kellyndc November 22, 2010 9:55 PM EST: Yes it would have been nice to see them mention Turtle, but the real life turtle or "Donkey" is what he was known as (real name Donnie Carroll) died by asthma attack in 2005. Who had also said that all the other real life characters were compensated but he was cut out.

Mark, please reconsider spanking your kids. There is so much to learn that you are unaware of in regards to your children's needs development and stages. There is always a loving and creative way to handle situations in the home. I know you were a hurting teen growing up. I encourage you to check out parenting from the heart or positive discipline. by Shanewer November 22, 2010 1:56 AM EST: Must've missed Mark spanking his kids? Agree with you in theory. Might does not equal right...sometimes. Try having and loving four boys born about two years apart (i.e., in 1980 my oldest was 12, next age 9 1/2, then 8 and 6) Just ONE bare-butt (Calvin Klein free), thick belt, bent over the couch, five swats max (not love pats either - let them scream bloody murder - a spanking should be painful) was all the insurance I ever needed. If memory serves me correct - age 8 to 9 was when these adjustments were administered. Quick correction: my oldest endured this punishment twice. Yes, a problem exists if spanking/paddling your child more than two or three times lifetime, or if it is your first resort to any disturbance, then you have a problem that needs professional attention.

My youngest is 28 and proudly proclaims has never "beaten" his son, age 5, (yet). Yep, all four of them remember the spankings. I also remember how great these boys were and remain. Not because I spanked them, but because their mother and I promoted sincerity, honesty, respect and love for each other.

While I missed the spanking segment - it appeared to me that Mark overcame his demons.
