Watch a DARPA robot trying to navigate obstacles

(CBS News) The sun has set in New York City and it is now officially the Friday night of Halloween weekend. So, of course, that can mean only one thing here at The Feed: video of a robot trying to navigate obstacles! Go ahead and watch the technological glory unfold in the video above.

The video was posted by DARPAtv who write about this latest demonstration in robotics:

In this video, the Pet-Proto, a predecessor to DARPA's Atlas robot, is confronted with obstacles similar to those robots might face in the DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC). To maneuver over and around the obstacles, the robot exercises capabilities including autonomous decision-making, dismounted mobility and dexterity. The DARPA Robotics Challenge will test these and other capabilities in a series of tasks that will simulate conditions in a dangerous, degraded, human-engineered environment. Teams participating in Tracks B and C of the DRC will compete for access to a modified version of the Atlas robot for use in the 2013 and 2014 live disaster-response challenge events.

by Fed-Up_Patriot October 29, 2012 2:14 PM EDT: The very next skill-set they need it to learn - is paratrooper skills... With that they could send 1 - just 1 to change drastically world events.. I envision this single unit could personally visit Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at night and gently tuck him into bed. It would be programmed to commit no harm to the Iranian leader just tuck him into bed and stand over him and help him sleep like a baby. I'm sure he would sleep like a baby knowing that soon we will have an entire army of these heading his way should he continue mess with us. BTW now that I think about it this would be perfect for infiltrating those underground nuclear enrichment sites they've set up. After the AI is done - mass production should be very very cheap maybe even down to the level of new car prices ( Which BTW is less money then it takes to train one soldier ).

This is something that China must also consider - should it incorrectly decide to invade Taiwan, Phillipines, Japan, S. Korea, or the old French Indo-China peninsula in the near future. China I'm still not sure how they are going to turn out. We could become great friends or great enemies. I hope our two countries can continue to stay friends... We have so much we could learn from each other. Our two countries and humanity desperately need each others help. The fate of humanity for the coming century will largely be determined by the relation between the US and China.; Reply to this comment
