A very good reason to stay away from scary spiders

(CBS News) Filming animals and insects in nature can definitely put you in harm's way. Just ask this guy who decided to film a pretty scary-looking spider. Warning: If you have arachnophobia, this may not be the best video for you to watch. Possibly even if you don't have arachnophobia.

Run for your lives! Okay, did you all jump when the spider attacked? I'll admit I did. Of course I've got a tinge of arachnophobia (not bad, but enough to keep my distance from scary spiders).

Noticed this little fella walking around on my chair and decided to film him. He didn't like that.

Maybe it was a celebrity spider tired of paparazzi attention? Either way, I would agree he did not like being filmed and hope a lesson was learned by all: stay away from scary-looking spiders.

by howellfilm June 29, 2012 9:11 PM EDT: These spiders are extremely common in places like Michigan. Yes, they move FAST (and jump even FASTER)! But, like others have said, most are very harmless. It amazes me me how so many people think these spiders are EVIL CRITTERS. I've seen many of them on screen doors and on walls in the summer months. by rematenaj June 29, 2012 12:53 PM EDT: I lost a fight with a spider on the beach in Dominica not long ago. It kept trying to get on me while sitting in the beach chair. I would throw sand at it, it would go under the chair for a few seconds, then re-appear, looking at me like it wanted to eat me. This went on for several minutes. I finally got up and left the beach...the spider won. I thought I did really well trying to make it go away - usually I run screaming immediately upon seeing one. Not even, that is an even less harmless, more common, and very small jumping spider.

They have very good vision, and almost seem to have personalities, they will usually hide under something, and peek out occasionally to see if you are still there.

This one probably saw her own reflection in the lens, had nowhere to hide, and so decided to leave, as they are solitary beings.

BTW, no, I didn't jump when the spider did, I have played with this type of spider ever since I was small, even if they did try to bite, their mouth is too small to break human skin.; Reply to this comment

It's a harmless wolf spider. I prefer having them in the house to the black widows that I find and kill at nighttime when I get up to go to the bathroom.

by Michael048 June 30, 2012 3:17 PM EDT: Jumping spiders are indeed harmless but everyone who see a spider jumping at his face, he would surely take him lightly and think that he is going after his life may be, but this is surely not the case. They can be aggressive and can jump more than a foot but they are surely not deadly or very dangerous. Wanna know more about these spiders, checkout this website (www.jumpingspider.net)
