Razor Blade Found in Wal-Mart Ice Cream?

(KLTV/CBS) An East Texas woman says she wants Wal-Mart to investigate safety practices after she bit into a razor blade in a carton of Great Value ice cream.

Great Value is a Wal-Mart brand.

Last Saturday night, Stephanie Granger curled up on her sofa to watch a movie with a small carton of "Peanut Butter Stars" ice cream in hand.

After a few bites. something sharp cut the inside of her lip.

Granger says she thought it might have been tin foil, but it turned out to be a broken razor blade.

Granger called Wal-Mart on Monday to tell them what she had found and the response wasn't what she was hoping to hear.

"I don't think 'I'm sorry, I hope your day gets better' is an appropriate response to 'I found a razor blade in my ice cream.'"

She says she believes it was no one's fault, but wants Wal-Mart to make sure it doesn't happen again.

by ajvenom February 9, 2011 6:52 PM EST: Manufactures usually use metal detectors on food products so that is an unlikely source. Stock Persons use utility knives on some groceries items that come in cardboard boxes, but the bladee would have cut the inside boxes, break off which should have been discarded if the container was comprimised. The odds would be astronamical that these events would ever happen.

Always check the containers and don't buy any cut open products. Since the woman isn't sueing is good news to hear, because it always ends up costing consumers in the long run. Also, they should check to make sure the woman didn't stage the incident because of possibly having problems with Wal-mart or trying to seek attention.

I guess it's best to wait for results before specualating on events, but I don't fear any problems either way, unless it's some nut job out there like when we had the Tylenol scare.; Reply to this comment


by Boot_Boy February 8, 2011 9:11 PM EST: I hope that everyone knows that Wal-Mart does not actually physically make any ice cream themselves... Almost every single Sam's Choice product is made by a major name brand manufacturer.
"I don't think 'I'm sorry, I hope your day gets better' is an appropriate response" what did she want to here... "My bad, Too bad you didn't swallow it" At least the person tried.
Of course they are going to investigate it, They take all claims extremely seriously and will make sure that the true manufacturer will do so as well. That is normally how the major recalls happen, some one fiends out that somethings wrong, an investigation takes place, a recall is issued.
I do feel sorry for Stephanie but she probably didn't need to sit on the couch and pamper herself with a tub of ice cream anyway.; Reply to this comment
