(CBS) May 21st may or may not mark the end of the world, as gravelly voiced radio evangelist Harold Camping has famously predicted. But Uncle Sam is offering its help the fearful, putting together a tongue-in-cheek action plan for surviving another dreaded doomsday scenario:

A "zombie apocalypse."

"You may laugh now, but when it happens you'll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you'll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency," Assistant Surgeon General Dr. Ali S. Khan wrote in an article posted on the CDC website.

Khan said it's a good idea to keep an emergency kit in the house to "get you through the first couple of days before you can locate a zombie-free refugee camp." Of course, he says, the emergency kit would also come in handy in the event of disasters that don't involve the walking undead - things like floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes.

He goes on to give specific steps to take once flesh-eating zombies show up, concluding with a bit of reassurance about how the CDC would respond.

"If zombies did start roaming the streets, CDC would conduct an investigation much like any other disease outbreak," Khan wrote. "CDC would provide technical assistance to cities, states, or international partners dealing with a zombie infestation."

Are you prepared?

Jesus did come to His followers, I believe it, it happened at the end of that generation. However that coming is indeed a historical parable for us today. We must see Jesus through their eyes. Then it was exact, today it is idealistic. See my website for more in you want to at redirectism.com. You can get it on line for free. There is a way to understand the 2nd coming without taking the words of Jesus out of context.

Used to be our leaders worried about real life threats like biological weapons and terrorists.

Along came Obama and he's selling tacky t-shirts and gearing up the US for a Zombie attack.

I feel so much safer now. How about you?

Great, thanks CDC, you just gave the republicans the attack platform for the 2012 smear ads. "Cuban priest Obama has summoned an army of zombies to take US jobs. Zombies are breaching the borders as we speak. Dick Cheney has declared a War on Zombies." Don't buy it fellow americans, zombies crave brains, we are all safe.

Harold Camping says this? Well, there goes HIS credibility & career. One less Bible thumping "personality" to listen to.

DRAT! I missed my chance to unload all those crates of "ascension gowns" in my garage... well, actually they're paper hospital robes but what the hell. You can ALWAYS cash in on stupidity. :-)

Corar57 I said if the world ends I'd be like Omar from the wire. Your sentence is out of context. If the world ends tomorrow you're damn right I will do everything in my power to survive. Im not gung-ho unless society collapses. Now since there are no laws when that happens I'm not too worried. You're too uptight. Lighten up a little you just might enjoy life instead of fearing it
