Wonderlic Test on tap for NFL hopefuls: What it is, and who has highest score?

(CBS) The NFL draft season is around the corner, and teams will be looking at players' height, weight, speed, strength, and throwing ability. But the teams will also be testing players' brainpower.

That's where the Wonderlic Cognitive Abilty test comes in.

What's the Wonderlic test? It's a 12-minute, 50-question test on various subjects. Teams use the test to make sure players can keep up with the sport's intellectual as well as physical demands.

"It can send up a red flag that you've got to look into," John Fox, head coach of the Denver Broncos, says in a video posted on the Wonderlic website. "But by no means is it an end-all to whether a guy can play football or not."

According to the video, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kevin Curtis is believed to hold the highest Wonderlic score of any current player. Will his 48 points on paper translate into points on the scoreboard this season?

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Harvard University grad and Buffalo Bills QB, made a perfect score on the test. He correctly answered all 50 questions within the 12 minute time period. That score places his IQ at "genius." It doesn't insure success on the playing field but it sure indicates that he is one smart dude.
