(CBS) With all the attention Emmy nominee Christina Hendricks has been getting for being gorgeous, you might have thought designers were fighting to get her to wear one of their dresses to the Emmys.

Not so.

The curvaceous "Mad Men" star, voted Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire, last week told the UK's Daily Record that not one "designer in town will loan me a dress."

She went on to say that "they only lend out a size 0 or 2. So I'm still struggling for someone to give me a darn dress."

"Hendricks is medium-boned with a large chest," says Marisa Sherry, a New York nutritionist in private practice who specializes in eating disorders."For her to fit into a size 2 would be nearly impossible. The average American woman is a size 12, and I think it's quite unfortunate that the fashion industry makes women feel like size 0 and size 2 are the only acceptable sizes."

Hendricks, who is 5'8" and wears a size 14, ended up showing off her full-figured measurements in a gown designed by Zac Posen.

As CBS News reported last month, the 35-year-old says has been fighting negativity about her weight all through her career.

"You don't put a big girl in a big dress," fashion critic Cathy Horyn wrote in the New York Times about the dress Hendricks wore to the Golden Globes.

She used to be 15 pounds heavier - and that, she told Health Magazine, is when she felt the most beautiful. She was modeling in Italy.

"I was having cappuccinos every day!" she told the magazine. "I would take my clothes off in front of the mirror and be like, 'Oh, I look like a woman.' And I felt beautiful, and I never tried to lose it, 'cause I loved it."

Although she "breaks every healthy rule" by eating salty and creamy foods, she tells the magazine that she's started working out for the first time.

There are certainly plenty of fans who hope she doesn't over do it.

It's time we stopped with this size 2,4,6,8,10,12,14 nonsense! Use inches! It's accurate, men's clothing is sold far more frequently with inch measurements and what was one size years ago is a different size now because there is no consistency. Also, between manufacturers there is no uniform or universal regard for standardization. A size 16 at one store is a size 12 at another. When I read that an actor is a size 2 I laugh because I see someone who is at least a size 8 in the archaic system used today.

You'd think that those moronic designers would be lining up for the challenge of designing a gown for a real woman, wouldn't you?
I've got news for you Christina; you could be wearing a burlap sack and you'd still outshine all those others with their "designer" dresses!

A size 14 for 5'8" is NOT big. Hollywood is ridiculous in their goals.

Oh Yeah, whenever I see the image of Christina Hendricks all I can think is, "ugh, disgusting". Those curves, so unfeminine, so unnatural. You would never find anything like that being, say, artistic subject matter consistently for centuries.

Cathryn Horyn can suck it. I often agree with the woman and admire her tenacity, but Hendricks is beautiful and healthy and looked absolutely stunning and goddess-like in that dress. It was perfect for her.

I agree that she is perfect and beautiful. I hope she continues to ignore comments from people like "rf35" above. It is wonderful to see a beautiful, successful actress who is not a size 2. I think she is a great role model for young women. (I think it is interesting that in the late 1950's Marilyn Monroe had the "ideal" body, and the average person was much thinner than now, when the "ideal" body is much, much thinner, but the average person is much larger than the ideal.)

I don't find her at all attractive. I don't go for skinny twig-women, but I find her chest too big and her face too pinched. Her hair looks more like a pile of copper wire. Worst of all, in the picture used above, she looks like the Joker with that forced-looking smile and unfortunate choice of lipstick color.

Holy hooters, Batman!

She's perfect and beautiful. There should be no such thing as a too big for hollywood. She's got an amazing body and its sad that people want to tell her to cover it up because she's not a size two! I thought that the goal for hollywood and its modals was to show the world that you dont have to be super tiny anymore to be pretty. You can still eat and be HEALTHY and be on the red carpet. Was this all lies?
