Christina Hendricks' Measurements - Too Big for Hollywood?

(CBS) With all the attention Emmy nominee Christina Hendricks has been getting for being gorgeous, you might have thought designers were fighting to get her to wear one of their dresses to the Emmys.

Not so.

The curvaceous "Mad Men" star, voted Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire, last week told the UK's Daily Record that not one "designer in town will loan me a dress."

She went on to say that "they only lend out a size 0 or 2. So I'm still struggling for someone to give me a darn dress."

"Hendricks is medium-boned with a large chest," says Marisa Sherry, a New York nutritionist in private practice who specializes in eating disorders."For her to fit into a size 2 would be nearly impossible. The average American woman is a size 12, and I think it's quite unfortunate that the fashion industry makes women feel like size 0 and size 2 are the only acceptable sizes."

Hendricks, who is 5'8" and wears a size 14, ended up showing off her full-figured measurements in a gown designed by Zac Posen.

As CBS News reported last month, the 35-year-old says has been fighting negativity about her weight all through her career.

"You don't put a big girl in a big dress," fashion critic Cathy Horyn wrote in the New York Times about the dress Hendricks wore to the Golden Globes.

She used to be 15 pounds heavier - and that, she told Health Magazine, is when she felt the most beautiful. She was modeling in Italy.

"I was having cappuccinos every day!" she told the magazine. "I would take my clothes off in front of the mirror and be like, 'Oh, I look like a woman.' And I felt beautiful, and I never tried to lose it, 'cause I loved it."

Although she "breaks every healthy rule" by eating salty and creamy foods, she tells the magazine that she's started working out for the first time.

There are certainly plenty of fans who hope she doesn't over do it.

I've had an inkling that fashion leaders don't like women. The inclination to boyish figures is freaky to me. I find most, if not all, supermodels revolting. It's not only unattractive sexually, but just plain ugly. Their loss, besides feminine beauty stands on it own. I've seen so many good looking women work them selves over so much that they look uglier and older. And, the notion the women don't age a well as men, baloney. Take care of yourself and don't be so self absorbed. Now that's attractive for anybody regardless of gender.

I think she is a good actress and pretty woman too. Everyone has their own preference some prefer thin women while others prefer them curvy, but either way no one deserves to be disrespected.

Wow, how anyone can say that Christina Hendricks isn't gorgeous is unbelievable to me. She is truly gorgeous. I wish she didn't always have her chest hanging out of her dresses to such an extent but that's Hollywood, I guess. I'm American and 5'8" and 190's and I wear a US size 14 (lost over 100 lbs so far so feeling great about that size), but I AM still large (large). I have a large frame and size DDD cup, so hope to get down to USA size 8 eventually. Considering that I was size 26-28 at one point, I am extremely happy. I would be tremendously happy to look like Christina but I love the way that I look and just getting more healthy:)

Too bad there are people who have nothing better to do with their time and energy than to troll the internet writing mean things about people. We should all realize how pathetic their lives are and feel sorry for them instead of flaming at these dysfunctional people. I wonder what has occured in their lives to make them this way:(

I don't think she is too big, but I do think she is pretty ugly and that dress looks gross.

I am wondering why, with all the money she makes, is she holding out for a designer to "give" her a dress? Just buy one already! Pay a designer to create a masterpiece just for you! Then, wear it to all of the Hollywood functions and get your money's worth. Be a trend setter and wear the same dress more than once.

She's pretty, but too large to be called really sexy.

Some of these negative posters need to be honest and just admit they are coming from a gay perspective which makes their comments marginal at best. Gay men are the ones that created that stick thin standard for women...I have yet to find one hetero guy that prefers that...if you are not into "touching" women but simply looking at them from an asexual, critical stand point you just will not "get it".

That makes no sense. There is absolutely NO evidence that could possibly blame gay men for women being too thin.

It's time we stopped with this size 2,4,6,8,10,12,14 nonsense! Use inches! It's accurate, men's clothing is sold far more frequently with inch measurements and what was one size years ago is a different size now because there is no consistency. Also, between manufacturers there is no uniform or universal regard for standardization. A size 16 at one store is a size 12 at another. When I read that an actor is a size 2 I laugh because I see someone who is at least a size 8 in the archaic system used today.

I think higher end denim is sold by the waist measurement but I totally agree with you! I've worn a 6 since high school but I'm fairly certain the 6s from 10+ years ago would not fit me now.

Wow. I've said the same thing for years. European shoe sizes make more sense, too. I have American shoes in 6, 6.5, 7, and 7.5 but my feet don't change shape or size!

You'd think that those moronic designers would be lining up for the challenge of designing a gown for a real woman, wouldn't you?
I've got news for you Christina; you could be wearing a burlap sack and you'd still outshine all those others with their "designer" dresses!
