(CBS) She's "Keeping up with the Kardashians," but reality star Kim Kardashian may not be keeping up with the latest trends in breast feeding.

Last week, the 29-year-old television and Twitter vixen blasted a woman who was nursing her baby in a public restaurant.

"EWW Im at lunch, the woman at the table next 2 me is breast feeding her baby with no coverup then puts baby on the table and changes her diaper [sic]," Kardashian tweeted.

Later that day, she pulled back a bit and seemed to support breast feeding, although not in public: "My sister breast feeds! Its a natural beautiful thing, there's nothing wrong w it, but she covers herself, not w her boobs exposed" [sic]

Just like that, with two strokes of her blackberry, Kardashian unwittingly threw herself into the raging American debate on the proper place for breast feeding.

And the lactavists are a force to be reckoned with.

Earlier this month, more than 150 women marched on a Maryland mall after a woman was asked to leave for breast feeding in public, according to local television station WJLA.

Two years ago, pro-breast feeding moms put Facebook under fire, when the social networking site removed pictures of breast feeding women.

Even feminist hero Barbara Walters could not escape scrutiny. In 2005, she mentioned on air that a woman breast feeding on an airplane made her "uncomfortable." To help her get used to it, 200 breast feeding moms waited outside her window at ABC's broadcast center in New York.

The law is on their side.

Forty-four states have made it explicitly legal for women to pump in public, according to Mothering.com. And another 12 states, including New York and California, make it clear women can pump in the workplace.

Did anyone else notice that all of the anti-breastfeeding posts were riddled with spelling and grammatical errors? Is it really fair to expect people who aren?t even educated enough to know whether to use ?there? or ?their? to be educated about breastfeeding? I don?t think so. I only wish that they wouldn?t broadcast their idiocy to the rest of the world and can only hope that they aren?t reproducing, as I?m sure their children would go without the benefit of breast milk and thereby propagate their below average IQ?s to the next generation. For your education, the percentage of Americans who breast feed is pathetically and depressingly low and anything that makes a woman less likely to do it is nothing less than a tragedy. American infants are sicker, fatter and dumber than they should be thanks to the formula industry. I hope you enjoy the higher taxes and insurance premiums that go along with keeping those kids in medication when mother?s milk would have been the single biggest positive influence on their health, withheld only because people like you make weak-minded women fear your criticism. You should be ashamed and for the sake of future generations, quiet.

Hi All,

I'm sure we all agree that changing a diaper in a dining room table change was wrong, but why exactly is public breastfeeding not the same as public sex, public urination, and other "natural acts".

Why can't breastfeeding mothers pump a bottle at home or in private for a baby's public feedings?

I can't help but wonder if some mothers who advocate public breastfeeding so adamantly are actually exhibitionists.

First of all breastfeeding IS NOT A SEXUAL ACT. Secondly IT DOES NOT DESTROY ANYONE'S PROPERTY. Third, you cannot control where and when an infant becomes hungry. Fourth, not all infants will allow their head to be covered. They are human beings with with likes and dislikes too and trust me... when they dislike something or are made uncomfortable with something, they let you know. Fifth, you see more of a woman's breast in most fashion now than you do when a baby is nursing from one. It's not about being an exhibitionist. It's about meeting the needs of your child when they need it and having their needs be more important to you than the stranger's in the next booth.

Because it is a pain to pump especially if the baby is going to be with mom. Why should a mom have to pump when everything you need is right there and the right temp. Breastfeeding is natural and healthy for the baby. You have to pump at home (which involves setup and cleanup of all the accessories), keep the milk cool, figure out a way to warm up the bottle, which is quite difficult when you are in public, and then have dishes at home. I do breastfeed in public. I try to be modest when there are a ton of people around, but my child doesn't like to be covered and since it's summer, it is far to warm for both of us. I refuse to breastfeed in a bathroom, because, yes I think it is gross to change a diaper at the table so why is it so sanitary for me to feed my child where everyone else does their business. I do not consider myself an exhibitionist because I show far less when I am nursing than I see what other people are wearing with half their chest hangout out. I don't draw attention to myself, but if someone has a problem with it, they shouldn't be staring in the first place.

It's a bit hypocritical for sisters who pose naked together and have sex tapes to criticize a mother for nurishing her child in a healthy, natural way. Kim shows more breast area on a daily basis in the clothes she wears than a breastfeeding mother possibly could. Talk about over exposure!

Some of you are missing her point. She doesn't mind the "Breast Feeding" in public; just the boobs exposed, hanging out while little johnny is clamped on the nipple. I have a problem with that as well. I personally don't mind women who breast feed, I just feel it should be done discretly, and with class. Changing a childs diaper at the table is gross, and disgusting, she should have been thrown out of the restaurant.

A hilarious comment coming from someone who's username is 'betopless.' That's way classier than feeding a baby in public.

What many people aren't realizing is when a mother is breastfeeding her entire boob isn't out or showing. Even if a woman is completely topless, if she is breastfeeding the breast in use is partially if not all covered by baby's head.

Her sister will use a cover up but flaunts every part of your body! Please!!! How much sense does that make? The whole world has seen every part of her anyway! We live in a country where billboard ads flaunt sexuality but we get freaked out when a woman breastfeeds in public. Wow!! Where's the Women's Liberation and Freedom in that!? Let me put it this way, how about YOU eat with a shroud over your head, or in a bathroom, or ONLY in your own home! Let's see how you like it! Why is this country against babies so much!? Last time I checked this is the USA, not China!

Exactly! That sort of mind-set is disgusting. It's anit-mothers and anti-babies. I'm sure it would have been all fine and dandy with Kardashian if the mother was getting paid by Playboy to expose herself. It's just a boob, people. Get over it. I think the majority of the people complaining probably have never breast fed.
And you know, It's tough to take care of an infant. Most women don't have all the time in the world to get botox and make sextapes all day. Some actually have jobs and errands to run. Who can blame them for just whipping it out sometimes?

I've seen women breast feeding in public and , especially if done discreetly, doesn't bother me one bit. I don't what could be more natural. The diaper thing is too far because nearly all public restaurants provide changing stations and it's downright unsanitary to boot.

I don't have a problem with the woman breast feeding without covering up, but changing a diaper on the table is simply gross and unsanitary. I wouldn't want to be the next person to eat at that table.

However, I don't usually encounter it on the TABLE in a restaurant...which is where the woman changed the child's diaper!

What reality? This woman is famous for her big butt. Does that qualify her to be an expert on child raising? I don't think so. She is a model -- not a role model. She should keep quiet about her pet peeves and concentrate on being a centerfold.

They should leave her alone. She has her right to have an opinion just like they have the right to breast feed in public. Not everyone has to think it's such a beautiful thing. I don't mind women breast feeding in public. But I do feel the least they could do is be polite to others and cover there breasts and the baby with a blanket or cover of some sort. I would not want to be at a restaurant next to a women with her *** exposed rather milks in it or not! And for the record I have breastfed in public before. But I did cover up, mainly because I just didn't want the world looking at my breast! Some things are private matters and certain body parts are definately included with that as far as I am concerned.
