The 404 632: Where we give them something to talk about (podcast)

All week long we've been discussing this year's Comic Con(vention) in California, an annual gathering where Conheads can buy, sell, and trade all manner of nerdly paraphernalia. It's also a good opportunity for companies to introduce new products, and our buddy Claire brought us back a bottle of SULU Pour Homme, the new fragrance from the folks at Genki Wear.
Designed for the man "wielding a rapier in a swordfight or commanding the helm of a Constitution-class starship," SULU is actually Genki's SIXTH Trek-inspired frangrance- past colognes include Tiberius, Red Shirt, Pon Farr for Women, and more. We'll conduct some field tests to see if the cologne actually works.
Ep. 632: Where we give them something to talk about
Next up we have a hands-on look at Apple's Magic Trackpad, a new peripheral that brings touch gestures to Apple desktop systems. Thanks to Scott Stein for taking time out of his in-depth review to bring it into The 404 studio! The general consensus is that while the large real estate area is convenient for scrolling across HDTVs and monitors, the appeal is offset by the $70 price tag, especially since it can't do much more than the standard track pad on an Apple laptop.
A new Twitter service called Tweet Media could bring a welcome traffic boost to the already popular social networking site. According to Mashable, Twitter is already testing a new service that will embed photos and video directly in your home stream.
The default setting automatically shows media shared by the people you're following, and you can choose to view the same images and video from people you're not. Some are skeptical that Twitter Media could blur the already fine line between Twitter and Facebook, since many prefer the simplicity of the microblogging platform, but Mashable is already predicting that the feature will "radically change the entire Twitter experience."
We didn't play any voicemails yesterday, so today you're in for an extra-long Calls From The Public, including one submission from Jeff's Dad, Sweet Lou Bakalar! He dishes useful advice on exactly what Wilson and I should expect at Jeff's wedding in October, and even convinces me to change my name! Tune in for more voicemails, plus a couple theme song submission on today's episode of CNET's The 404 Podcast!
