Tempers Flare In Climate Change Flap

One day after reports that Britain's Met office intends to reexamine 160 years' worth of temperature data, emotions over what's now being dubbed "Climategate" are getting more raw by the day.

During a live television faceoff hosted by the BBC, Marc Morano, a former communications director of the U.S. Senate Environment Committee and now an editor with the Web site Climate Depot squared off against Professor Andrew Watson of the University of East Anglia in eastern England. It didn't take long before the two got in each other's face and Watson became increasingly annoyed with Morano's loud interruptions. He finally lost it by the end when the anchor thanked the participants.

"What an asshole," Watson said.

Not a very professorial reaction but Morano was being a bit of a nudnik, IMHO. Here are the clips so you can judge for yourself.

Meanwhile, the Met's planned reexamination comes just before an international conference on climate change is set to open in Copenhagen. The UK government is said to oppose the three year investigation as it likely would play into the hands of climate change skeptics. This is potentially quite a big deal. As the UK's TimesOnline points out:

"The Met Office database is one of three main sources of temperature data analysis on which the UN's main climate change science body relies for its assessment that global warming is a serious danger to the world. This assessment is the basis for next week's climate change talks in Copenhagen aimed at cutting CO2 emissions."

The Met's move follows the recent leak of embarassing email messages between scientists at the Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia. Critics say the correspondence suggests that some scientists have exaggerated the case for man-made climate change. The university and its defenders argue that the stolen documents have been interpreted out of context and don't suggest nefarious intent.

The problem for climate change activisists is that the scientific research upon which they base their claims has now been cast in a political light. Phil Jones, who is the CRU's director, has temporarily stepped aside. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania State University is deciding whether it needs to open its own investigation as some of the emails were written by one of its faculty members.

Good for you, but too bad you can't tell the difference between WEATHER and CLIMATE, and how it is global surface temperatures that give us an average global temperature -- not just Las Vegas!

Personally, I can't wait until both Lake Powell and Lake Mead completely dry-up from lack of flow from the Colorado River, and all you Vegas carpetbaggers have to move elsewhere for water!

Why anyone would give marc morano any credibility on anything associated with science, is utterly delusional.

This political hack was previously known as rushbo's 'Man in Washington,' as reporter and producer for his TV show, as well as a former correspondent and producer for American Investigator, the nationally syndicated TV newsmagazine, Sen. Inhofe (R-OK)?s environmental communications director, and sits at the center of the right-wing global warming denier propaganda machine running the climate denial website ClimateDepot.com for the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, a conservative anti-environmentalism think tank.

Promoted on the drudge report and FAUX NoNooz, morano?s moronic misinformation enters mainstream discourse through columns by conservatives and huge numbers of forwarded e-mails.

Many in the morano gang are funded by right-wing think tanks, though a few are committed activists, conspiracy theorists who believe their homebrew interpretations of climate data. Others are aging scientists with strong conservative beliefs, motivating them to challenge action on global warming not because they disbelieve its existence, but because they are ideologically opposed to regulation of pollution.

This political hack with no science background is just another first generation swift boater spewing nothing but LIP SERVICE for the DENIALIST religion.

come on lakota2012 - you are as brainwashed as the right wingers. this is the fraud of left/right politics. what ever happened to looking at the hard data. How can you even talk about global warming at this point:

- There is clear fraud within the scientific community. Why is this a surprise? Fraud and schemes are revealed ever day within business and government.

- The clear evidence of fraud actually resides in the proposed solution.

- There are calls to achieve 80% reduction in emissions in the US by 2050. This takes the US to 1900 levels. There is no call for technology to reduce the levels - we are talking shutting down industry and some reduction on population.

- We discover that the same corrupt central banks will manage the new global taxes on carbon and co2 coming out of Copenhagen. The same notoriously corrupt banks will manage life via taxes. This is not rhetoric - read the Copenhagen Treaty - and learn about the text messages that were leaked at Copenhagen.

- The Copenhagen treaty and all of the junk science around c02 and carbon (life) will do nothing to stop real pollution. The proliferation of mercury, gmo foods, depleted uranium, military pollution and destruction of arable lands, etc. etc., will continue unabated.

- The key is to look at who benefits. The people will remain as poisoned as ever, we will be totally subject to the international banking cartel (this was revealed in the Danish text leak - London Guardian) - who will have the ability to enact slush funds and Ponzi schemes (cap and trade).

- So I ask you, what pollution will be abated via the global warming scare and proposed solutions?

- Why are folks like you so willing to give up your freedoms? Never in the history of world has a global power or government been able to control and tax life itself (co2 and carbon).

- Why do you not realize that (in reading the treaty) hardcore manufacturing is being transferred to exempt nations. So the US will be broke and on life support via c02/carbon regulation, while India , China, etc..will produce c02 unabated - this was made quite clear during the Congressional hearings on climate.

- Some things never change - just like in the 80's with EPA Superfunds (another big scheme where we discover that the primary polluters were given exemptions - we suckers go for one scam after the other - just like you forget that Holdren and other climate crooks tried this game in the 70's by pushing the notion that we were going into an ice age (because it was unseasonably cold, just like they tried to capitalize on unseasonable warmth))

Wake up!

maybe you can follow your group organizer and inexperienced obungler straight into a brick wall and then thank him for it and tell him what a great job he's doing as he taxes the he** out of everybody to save us from the terrible global climate change that we can't avoid and didn't cause in the first place. nevermind evolution of the planet lets just ignore 5 billion years of earths history and listen to obungler, he gives such great speeches Oh, wait thats exactly what your doing.

I also question the theory of gravity. Maybe Rush and his right wing nut collection on Faux News can gather some data on the fraudulent theory of gravity by jumping off their building.

I live in las vegas, nevada THE DESERT you know where it usually reaches 110 or 115+ for months in the summer and never really snows here in the valley in the winter time. well last few years have been some of the coolest years we have seen. It snowed a good 6 inches or more here in the DESERT last winter followed by a very mild summer that it reached 110 mark for maybe a couple weeks. Guess what it just snowed LAST NIGHT on the north side of town this is early December in the DESERT. My friend took a picture of me last year with the vegas strip in the background and me standing in front of my 5 foot high snow man holding a sign that said global warming. ha ha ha so don't try to sell this fake onesided global warming scam to me. I can't wait until the end of December or January to make a bigger snow man than I did last year here in the desert of Nevada. by the way does anyone know what this hot dry desert used to be, an ocean WOW! thats what the earth does it changes and has been for about 5 billion years and we didn't have anything to do with it the last time it changed or the time before that or before that and we can't progress or stop it from changing now. When did common sense become such a rare thing.

What happened with your weather last year isn't relevant. Where you're going to get water and energy once Lake Powell dries up IS relevant.

Question, what would you do, or could do.....to stop the earth from cooling, if we had "global cooling"

please give me your idea to stop global cooling...curious

Would liberals/G.W.ers be surprised to hear that the earth's core, is hotter then the sun, and guess what too......the mantle comes bubbling to the crust and comes out, called Lava and Magma.....but forbid having a ten-of-a-degree increase, and the world is coming to an end in 10 years, according to Prince Charles of StupidShire.

Exactly, ignore all common sense, ignore all 4.5 billion years history of the climate on the earth, and accept whole-cloth, the "tricked" data of some scientists, who are guilty of throwing away cooling data.

If anything, liberals/GWers should fear global cooling;...try stopping that by driving a Prius or trading some carbon.

You are the one ignoring all common sense, 'Empire-George'. Just like President George, your namesake.

Common sense agrees with the physics: dump huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere in a short time (on a geological time scale), and you will get warming. Even if surface air temperature measurements do not show that clearly.

George where does it say DATA was FALSIFIED??
_______________________

Have you not been following the story these past weeks ?? They threw out cooling data into the garbage, which would provide proof which would be contrary to their desires to push global warming....therefore, if you throw out important data, then you are falsifying the results, by excluding cooling data.....the scientists who got caught, called it "tricking" people or tricking the measurments.

hey, ubrew if what your saying is true and GW or climate change has been happening for 600,000 years, then how the HE** do humans have anything to do with it. Oh I know it must have been all those factories and cars people drove 600,000 years ago. lol the truth is yes, the climate is changing and has been up and down over the coarse of billions of years not a measley 600,000 but NO, humans are not responsible for it. the planet goes through changes all the time, it doesn't care if we like it or not. it's like asking someone to stop an earthquake or volcano. not going to happen. who caused the last ice age? maybe the dinosaurs created to much greenhouse gas with all there factories and big suv's yeah thats it. give me a break!

GW hasn't been happening for 600,000 years, just the last 100, and mostly the last 50. CO2 levels have been stable, at 250ppm, for the entire ice core record (600,000 years). In the last 150 years they have risen in an ever accelerating curve, and now stand at 390 ppm.
