NEW YORK (CBS/AP) The National Enquirer reports that former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards will soon be indicted by a federal grand jury.

Edwards has been mired in scandal since his affair with campaign staffer Rielle Hunter became public in 2008. According to the Enquirer, the grand jury's charges stem from that relationship.

At issue, according to the Enquirer, is whether there were "possible campaign violations related to paying his mistress Rielle Hunter," who produced some short videos for the Edwards campaign in 2008.

More recently, Hunter has been fighting in court with Andrew Young, a former Edwards aide, over a videotape purportedly showing her and Edwards in a sexual encounter. That video has been turned over to the court and placed under seal.

The National Enquirer, a tabloid, is credited with breaking the news that Edwards had a child with Hunter. Edwards only admitted to being the child's father last month.

He will be indicted for "possible" campaign violations. This man is rich. He did not need to use campaign monies to pay off his mistakes and hide his trail. He should have used his OWN monies then the trail would have been easy to follow. Insult to injury, using tax dollars to follow this man's trail. He has no shame and no character. Sorry for the little child.

Fornication should not prevent a person from screwing over a country.

Walter Cronkite once noted when asked why so much of the news is "bad or sad" instead of happy, that news is an aberration from normal.

So using your logic combined with Walter Cronkite's definition (hardly a conservative was he) I now understand your comment.

So it is news if a Republican gets a woman on the side pregnant and he attempts to hide it, but if it is a Democrat then it is considered normal so it is not news. Thank you for admitted what many of us former democrats knew - rules only apply to conservatives.

"hateis", only a true neo-con would take her comment and turn it into a political rant, the only thing she named was the National Enquirer, but you, fool, felt the need to turn it into an anti democrat smear. Congratulations, you've qualified for the Party of Fear and Smear.

So, let me get this right...CBS is using The National Enquirer as a reliable news source?

Well since the National Enquirer has broken several stories the past few years that turned out to be accurate, I think they might be more credible than the MSM is today.
I think the MSM needs to stop the love fest with political parties and large corporations and do their job for once.
This story was there for anyone to get to the bottom of, but since he was running for the Democratic Party nomination, the MSM gave him a free pass.

Yes, that's right. CBS had to go with a source more reliable than CBS!
