Banned on iPhone: Sex, Violence, Bad Taste

NEW YORK (CBS) Apple's App Store has gotten a little less naughty and a lot safer for kids, according to the Telegraph as Apple announced it has removed over 5,000 apps do to violent or overly sexual content.

Some of the banned applications showed pornographic material that could easily be accessed by children. Another app made a game out of shaking a baby to death. Yet another application was used to broadcast child pornography - a naked 15-year-old girl - to Apple's enormous iPhone audience.

Accordingly, Apple is cracking down. "If we find these apps contain inappropriate material, we remove them and request the developer make any necessary changes in order to be distributed by Apple," the company said in a statement quoted by the Wall Street Journal.

The paper said Apple is now enforcing stricter policies on which applications are approved for iPhones and iPod Touches.

Overall, the App Store has been a tremendous success with more than 140,000 programs and more than three billion downloads.

But some highly offensive applications have slipped through. Crimesider takes a look back at infamous apps, that were too violent, sexual and, in some cases, illegal.
