Alec Baldwin, After Pill Scare, Feeling Good Enough to Tangle With Paparazzi

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) A day after a New York paper said Alec Baldwin tried to kill himself with sleeping pills, the "30 Rock" star was feeling well enough to tangle with a paparazzi photographer and police had to intervene, according to the New York Daily News.

No one was hurt and no charges were filed on either side according to the New York Daily News.

This was the end of a very hectic day for the Emmy award-winning actor. Baldwin was taken to a hospital Thursday after his 14-year-old daughter called 911 saying he had threatened to commit suicide during an argument on the telephone, a law enforcement official told the New York Post.

Baldwin's daughter, Ireland, told police that she panicked after her father said, "I'm tired of this. I'm going to take some pills. I'm going to end this," an official told The Associated Press.

But Baldwin spokesperson Matthew Hiltzik refuted that claim. He said the 51-year-old was released from the hospital in an hour and took no alcohol or pills.

"This was a misunderstanding on one person's part. Alec was quickly released from the hospital; he's completely fine and will be at work today," Hiltzik said in a statement.

"If there was a real problem or concern, he wouldn't have been released from a hospital within an hour," Hiltzik said later Thursday.

In 2008, Baldwin blamed a bitter custody battle with ex-wife Kim Basinger in part for the anger and frustration he was feeling when he berated their daughter in a phone message leaked earlier to the media. In the message, Baldwin called Ireland a "rude, thoughtless little pig." He was apparently upset that she had missed his phone call. Baldwin said he apologized to Ireland. He said the message was wrong and "horrified" him.

I think the daughter AND her mother AND the Media are trying to put Baldwin in situations where they KNOW he will explode like this. He's being set up.... but he's being stupid enough to fall for it over and over again.

by jimmyc1955 February 13, 2010 12:21 PM EST: Hmmm - ok lets think about this. Alec Baldwin is unstable. He is famous. He is a celebrity. He makes big public displays of stupidity and occasionally violent. It would appear on the surface that his is borderline narcissistic and feels his daughter doesn't worship him as much as he thinks he deserves to be worshiped.

So you have the makings of th perfect media serial story. He will continue to behave like an over aged ace hole, his pretty daugher will continue to be the victim and the media will get what they long for - a celebrity they can rip on. Why?

Because in the US celebrity is king, we love them, elect them to high office when they are totally unqualified for the job, project onto them qualities they don't possess and then revel in their collapse.

This is why Obama is having a problem. He was elected as a celebrity and the tearing down has begun. Thankfully Obama is proving to be more stable than Mr. Baldwin.

I don't understand any person feeling so distraught and who feels that their life is so meaningless that they'd contemplate or commit suicide. Maybe celebrities have too much of the wrong things in their lives, instead of self and meaningful purpose. Their lives lack human substance, which is within their reach.

The daughter lives with Kim Basinger. And I haven't heard much good about her.

If there was a problem with him, he wouldn't have been let out of the hospital. No one knows what really happened, so quit speculating.
