The Grammy Award-winning rapper has gotten a temporary reprieve from jail — for dental surgery.

The rapper's sentencing in a New York City gun case was postponed Tuesday. His lawyer says the rapper needs to finish a string of recent surgeries for a dental problem before he goes to jail. His sentencing is now set for March 2, and a judge says it won't be put off further.

Lil Wayne, 27, pleaded guilty in October of 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, admitting he illegally had a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in July 2007. Police found the weapon when they stopped the bus after a Manhattan concert.

A rapper since he was a teenager, Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Carter, became known for his voluminous output and collaborations with other artists.

His career hit a peak in the last two years. His "Tha Carter III" led 2008 album sales with 2.8 million copies sold and featured such hits as the No. 1 smash "Lollipop." His Grammys include 2008's best rap solo performance award, for "A Milli."

I'm sure he's removing the diamonds. Were all of u as angry when white ass paris hilton was discharged after having cried and begged to be let out? Or when Chloe Kardashian was released the same day? Driving under the influence is also a crime. Those ******* could have killed someone. Wayne is rich and famous because he is xtrmly smart. He knows ppl will buy....especially white america. Those lil white boys u see in suburban areas trying to dress the way the rappers on tv dress....they are the 1st to ask the parents to cop that new lil wayne joint. He is my idol lol.

If he's needing dental surgery at age 27, he has one FUNKY mouth...

I can't believe this turd is considered a 'superstar', since he just thinks he's tough and has a big mouth. Maybe he can learn something about really being tough while he's in the slammer.

It's good to take care of your mouth before a stint in prison because he's going from rapping to wrapping when he get's there!

Isn't that nice? If it were the average Joe he'd be going to the big house instead of the dentist.

Well, actually, in jail the state would have to pay for the dental work, at least he is having it done and paying for it himself.

Probably all bling anyway.
