Babysitter Aaron Pace Used Drain Cleaner to Kill Crying Toddler, Say Philly Police

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) Drano is usually used to clear tough clogs in household drains.

But in the case of 20-month-old Suliaman Kirkland, it was used to kill, according to police.

Not even two years old, Kirkland was rushed to a Philadelphia children's hospital after his babysitter, Aaron Pace, allegedly doused a rag with the caustic substance and rubbed it onto his skin February 2.

The drain cleaner was used as some sort of punishment, police say, because the boy had been uncooperative and was crying.

Pace, 33, has been charged with murder and related counts and remained in custody Monday.

Police say Pace, of North Philadelphia, was baby-sitting Kirkland.

Homicide Lt. Philip Riehl says relatives of the suspect discovered the child's injuries and called his mother.

The boy was rushed to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in critical condition and died of his injuries Sunday.

A listed number for Pace could not be found and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.

you gotta be kidding me i knew this man all my life he loved suliaman how could u say that he didnot turn hisself n the cops beat him up 3 times after they got him broke his nose and his ribs he wasnt resistin arrest................who no's what you could have did and he probably wiped it off him to cover for you cuz ur unfit as a parent look into her records cuz i did you abbusive neglectful cut it out sulimom2710 u should be ashamed

i am suli"s mom and i just want to thnak all you ppl for your support input and prayers. and squeak his family didnt turn him in he turned hisself after my son died so no kudos for them. they lied to me. i pray he gets all he deserves for all that he has done.

Good God, what a sick, cruel animal this is. I won't call him a person because he doesn't qualify to be part of the human race. Why was the child "uncooperative and...crying" in the first place? There is no telling what this monster was doing before he killed him.

They should rub drain cleaner on him. If you don't know how to deal with a kid, then DON'T BABYSIT!! Good for the suspect's family for doing the right thing and turning him in. If only more people had the guts to do what they did.
