TACOMA, Wash. (CBS/AP) Iraq war veteran Joshua Tabor is accused of waterboarding his 4-year-old daughter because she would not recite the alphabet.

Thurston County prosecutors filed a child-assault charge Tuesday against the 27-year-old Army Sergeant.

According to a police report obtained by CNN, Tabor's girlfriend called police to their home in Yelm Sunday because Tabor had dunked his daughter's head in the kitchen sink. Yelm is about 65 miles south of Seattle.

According to the police report, Tabor admitted to holding his daughter in the sink because she was afraid of water, CNN reports.

When investigators asked the little girl about the bruises on her back and scratch marks on her neck, she told them "Daddy did it."

"It was hot, the water was hot. I told him I would say my letters then!" the girl told police, according to the police report obtained by CNN.

Tabor was released from jail Monday after posting $10,000 bail and is restricted to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The child is now in custody of Child Protective Services.

The story title is way out of line! This is child abuse and torture but not waterboarding. This guy should be sterilized and never be allowed to be around children.

Please let us not call this waterboarding. The guy is a jerk for dunking the kid in the water like that but to give the impression that soldiers are going to come home and torture their kids is sick. My dad used to beat the snot out of me if I didn't listen. I don't go around beating on my kids or killing people because of it. I simply never made the same mistake twice.

My father was an overly harsh disciplinarian (back in the 50'/60's so you know what I mean) but when I had trouble with my multiplication tables he just said I couldn't go outside until I learned them. It took a while, but I learned them. This father is deranged and out of control.

It's good thing for that little girl that the girlfriend wasn't a loser like her daddy.

I worded it wrong. : ) I should have said that it was a good thing she wasn't as big a loser as her daddy.

There are a lot of women that would have looked the other way, just to hang on to him.

What ignorant comments and irresponsible & inaccurate "journalism"! First, this is not waterboarding. Look it up. Second, where in your wildest dreams does this have ANYTHING to do with Republicans or former members of the Executive branch? Finally, as the purpose of the detention compound at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is to house prisoners and/or detainees who pose a threat to the United States of America, why should this guy be sent there? By that logic should we send all the rape/torturers there, the child abusers, the instigators of domestic violence... Get a grip, take your meds, and embrace reality. If you want sensationalism, turn on the TV.

And the 'rant against the liberal press' continues.

I agree that waterboarding appears to be a foolish choice - however, I see no mention of anything against anyone in realm of Bush/Republicans or any indications of any anti-war, anti-guantanamo bay in this article.

You need to realize that not everything revolves around your twisted version of 'liberal media will do anything to damage Republicans, America or promote the terrorist's cause'.

Maybe going back on your medications would help?

Dear Former_Marine_Sgt: Read the comments that preceded mine; my first three words: "What ignorant comments". The use of the term "waterboarding" by the author of the piece was inaccurate and irresponsible but the kneejerk, sensationalist reactions of the other commenters prompted my response. As for the rest, it stands. Not one single person has said anything relevant or pertinent to the case itself, including the probability that the father will face military charges as well as civil.
