Marijuana Meatballs: Ex NYC Detective Anthony Chiofalo Says He Got Fired Over Wife's Secret Recipe

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Anthony Chiofalo probably thought there was something new about his wife's meatballs but he didn't think it would get him fired.

The retired New York City counterterrorism detective says he failed a 2005 random drug test because his wife spiked his meatballs with marijuana. He was suspended and ultimately fired in 2007 and has been fighting the decision ever since.

Chiofalo's wife even admitted to investigators that she spiked her husband's meatballs because she wanted to force him to retire, but they didn't buy her story.

And neither did a state appeals court. After hearing arguments from Chiofalo's attorney Thursday the court ruled to uphold his dismissal.

Police department lawyer Edward Hart says there was more marijuana in Chiofalo's system than the meatballs alone could explain.

Philip Karasyk, Chiofalo's attorney, says he's considering options for continuing the case.

Also, Cidaia, how would you know if people had done what you call "drugs" years ago? I know you would still want to punish them by denying them medical care and all that other mental masturbation you got going on, but drugs wash out of the system. What are you going to find a year later? Have another beer and think yourself pious

If we legalize drugs, can we please openly discriminate against people based on their drug use?

Can we please deny health coverage to people who choose to use drugs?

Can we please refuse to rent apartments to people who choose to use drugs?

Freedom cuts both ways.

Obviously, from your many comments on this subject, your a right wing extremeist, an illitist, a racist, and a person who cannot stand living in a world where everyone doesn't think like you do. It's a control issue. There are many laws in place to deal with violent crimes, theft, etc. No one here is telling you what you can and can't do so that makes you the aggressor. I'm sure if you took the time to work on all of your problems what others choose to do wouldn't trouble you so much. Remember, remove the log out of your own eye before you try to remove the splinter out of someone else's eye.

Which drugs do you want to include in the list of those the use of which triggers this retaliation? Tobacco? Alcohol? Some drugs are already legal, and in some cases, they are way more dangerous than pot. Which legal drugs do you use? Do you want to be openly discriminated upon because of your use?

ffoulkes-2009, don't waste your time trying to reason with these numbskulls. As my momma says, stupid is as stupid does. And, as my daddy says, you can't fix stupid.

Drug testing is unfair when it comes to cannabis. Hard drugs like meth are out of your system in a matter of hours but cannabis can show up on a drug test for over a month. This is one reason a lot of people have gone to these drugs. I used to work for a county in the southwest and when they started drug testing a lot of people quit smoking pot and started using cocane. I don't recomend it. I do recomend we end the insane prohibition of cannabis.

How about just quitting the stupid drugs all together?
by dragon8me February 9, 2010 8:21 AM EST
ffoulkes that may be ideal, but it's not going to happen. The point is, it should not be a criminal matter. As far as pain, everyone is different. You might like to suffer but not everyone can handle pain. I'm a cronic pain sufferer and we lost the only pain doctor here and the nearest is 100 miles away. Trying to find one in nearly impossable in Texas. I had one lined up but they called a couple days ago and said they were closing. I have to start over, again. I know from past experience that cannabis would work as good as the narcotic pain meds but I can't go that route because of the laws. The problem is too many abuse these meds and it makes it hard for those that are trying do what they are supposted to do. It's hard to not want to kill yourself when ever moment of your life is full of pain. If I didn't have kids that decision would be easier. It's really about quality of life. When your in pain, there's no quality to your life.

Think of the booming business's and entreprenuers and reduction of strain on our judicial system if legalized.

Add to that the tax revenues and medical/commercial products that can be derived makes it a no brainer...C'mon Obama.

Come on, Steve...someone has to protect the alcohol pushers. The booze pushers are in no hurry to have their industry subject to competition from legal pot. Luckily, there are lots of groups who very much appreciate the status quo. Then there are law and order freaks morphed into rabid christians such as cidaia and ffoulkes. well in the case of the latter, he claims to be in pain and taking the pharmaceuticals to ease that pain yet he will look down his fat elvis nose at people who take cannabis recreationally. And cidaia wants to deny (certain) drug users medical care. Jesus would be proud. Apparently, to these mouth breathers and sheep buggerers, morality and legality are one and the same

This illegal prohibition has killed far people more than all the drugs put together ever could. Where are all the pro lifers on this issue. Many innocent people are being killed for no justifyable reason. This must not meet their agenda. Hypocrits!

Welcome to the pain train idiot. This country has more incarcerated citizens per capita than any other country on the planet. Prisons full of pot smokers. If they are not criminals going in, they are coming out. Get a clue, legalize it.
