Artie Lange Page 6: Artie Lange Stabs Himself Nine Times in Suicide Attempt

NEW YORK (CBS) Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lang is in the hospital after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt, according to Page 6 of the New York Post.

Lange's publicist confirmed that the radio host was hospitalized. The Post says surgeons were able to save him despite heavy bleeding.

Lange's mother called police Saturday morning after entering his Hoboken, N.J. apartment and found the bloodied comedian, a law-enforcement source told the New York paper. "Lange sustained six 'hesitation wounds' and three deep plunges," the paper wrote.

The 42-year-old Lange has been absent from Stern's Sirius radio show for a month. On Monday's show, Stern said Lange isn't leaving the program and called him "a tremendous contributor."

Lange is a New Jersey native who lives in Hoboken and has battled drug addiction. In September, a New Jersey judge revoked his driving privileges for seven months after he admitted he was under the influence of prescribed sleeping pills in a minor traffic accident.

This man is suffering so much that he attempted suicide by an extremely painful and sloppy method, and you are such a reprehensible piece of c/r@p that you use the story of his suffering as an excuse to slander the President of the United States? May you rot in hell, sunday42!

And, just FYI, Bush had "czars" before Obama did. His daddy had them before that... in fact, EVERY president throughout the history of this country has appointed people to manage areas of responsibility, and the media has been calling them "czars" for quite some time. So, why you tiny brained pieces of excrement think this is a good way to gain political power is a mystery to me and to every sane person in the world.

Keep your childish, ignorant hateful smears to yourself, sunday42. And seek psychological help ASAP, because you really need it.

i can't believe how mean you all are - it is obvious arti needs serious help - give the guy a break of course it is a terrible thing that he did but really we all do not know what is going on in his head and why he stabbed himself - no wonder this world is messed up - you all need to rethink how mean you all are. how are we going to all get along if we do not show some compassion for one another. he does not need to be reading all this negativity. were is the love people. how quickly you turn on someone. i would not want you all as friends that's for sure.

by andacar January 9, 2010 12:31 PM EST: I agree with you that a lot of these responses are pretty harsh. However, I would like to point out that guys like this bring such reactions on themselves. Artie Lang has made a career out of cruel, cynical, juvenile, often vicious humor at the expense of the public, egged on by a big fanbase and Howard Stern (no comment needed). And he defends it as free speech and laughs off those offended as PC morons who can't take a joke. It seems a little hypocritical for him to kick so many when they are vulnerable and then expect our sympathy when something like this happens. You reap what you sow.

I'm not surprised that Stern would have a suicidal drug-addict as a "contributor" on his show....

I find it funny that people have to slam Stern. At least he'll tell it like it is and not PC it up like most of this country likes it.

He comes from a large Italian-American family.

Suicide attempts are viewed very gravely in that religious community. He'll probably receive a lot of spiritual counselling.; Reply to this comment

Neither knives nor guns would be able to hurt anybody if we didn't have easy access to hands. Everyone should have to go through training and liscensing before being issued hands.

No one should bear arms who isn't trained and qualified to do so.

This may be the original intent of the 2nd Amendment, in that a "well regulated militia" would preclude folks with poorly regulated arms.
